What are the best Tournaments that attract College Coaches. Estimate on how many are in attendence?

Stingrays (Columbus)
Best of the Best (Massillon)
Sluggerfest (Cincinnati)

I believe all the Div. I coaches hit these in summer. This topic comes up every year. If you're curious if a certain coach is planning on attending a particular tournament, just send the coach an email (find it on their team web site) and ask where they plan on being this summer. Don't phone them, because they can't call you back per NCAA contact rules. I'm betting all four tournaments I listed - among others - will be on their list.

I don't know why more people don't do this - it's the simplest way to find out where the coaches go. Then you can bug your coach to find a way to attend those visible tournaments!

oops. hit the wrong key

ASA nationals - especially 16-U - although there seem to be plenty at 18-U as well
Just about anywhere in Colorado during the big 4th of July tournaments - if you can get in - pretty tough to do, but coaches are everywhere out there.

The tournaments listed are all good. I'd add Loudonville at 18-U. I hear Kidron is also good at 18-U, but I've never been there. There are some others that are in the next tier like GAPSS and I think one or two of the Toledo tournaments. And of course you have ASA State which I'm sure will now draw coaches since it is in better hands with plenty of good teams attending.

Ohio girls can be seen by all the Ohio and surrounding schools they wish at the tournaments listed. Colorado and ASA Nationals are great for (1) if a girl is truly big-time enough to draw interest from one of the major conferences, and (2) showing the Ohio coaches that a girl or team is serious about the game and willing to step up and play the best competition. We had several Ohio schools, as well as many others, watching us in Colorado, but they're only watching the girls who have written to them and who have convinced them with a skills video or a camp or prior games that it is worth the coaches' time to watch them.

Aunt Rosie's typically has a good turnout as well, especially at the 18U. Last year at 18U there were 24 coaches who registered. This year at 16U, there were 13 coaches who registered. It was a nice mixture of DI-DIII and one or two Junior Colleges. I don't think there were any NAIA.

The thing to remember is that these coaches are from New York and surrounding states. If your daughter does not want to attend college out of state, it may be a long trip--but excellent competition. I remember last year my daughter received an email from a DII school in Long Island; that was pretty far away.

Aunt Rosie's also has a great atmosphere and is close to Niagra Falls. Their concessions are good and reasonably priced, and the tournament is well organized.

There are downfalls as well. There are soooooooo many rules. The field condition is not the greatest either--probably more like a rec league. The outfields are bumpy, and you can count on a line drive being extra bases as the outfielders have a difficult time knowing how the balls are going to bounce. There is also one field that has a grass infied. Other fields need dirt filled in at the plate as the batters stand about 6 inches below the plate.

Pool games mean everything in that tournament. Only the top 8 teams make it to bracket play, and it is based on record, head to head, runs allowed. All teams are ranked, and the highest ranked team always plays the lowest ranked remaining team (in bracket play).

All in all, it is a great experience for the girls. The teams know their game schedules as soon as they have been selected to participate in the tournament.

I haven't seen a grass infield since-- well--- 1971 when girls played on an ALL grass field which was not a ball field at all but a COW pasture

I have seen more last year and more this year at the 18u level than the 16u. It was once said they look at 16u but I think things have changed. There is so much competion out there and if your not on the major complex you can forget being seen. So ladies keep sending your e-mail's to them and send lots of them.

Music City Hits sounds like an awesome tournament. I did some research on the tournament a while ago. I wish I had know a team from Ohio was there.

GAPPS had a fair number of coaches register. Go to gapss.org and click on the link for colleges.

I think that most of the bases have been covered above, except that there are a fair number of colleges at the Queen of Diamonds South and North tournaments. These are not for team entries, but rather for individuals.
