College Scholarships??

I think it has been posted before, but it is always a good reminder that the scholarship should not be the primary reason for playing this sport. If you don't love the game for what it is and what it teaches then maybe you shouldn't be playing.

How many of us wouldn't need scholarship money if we wern't paying for all those years of travel ball? lol!

The inability of most parents to face reality when it comes to their daughters' potential allows the travel circuit to exist. If only the girls with true D-1 or even D-2 potential were playing travel-- there would be about 10 teams in the state of Ohio at each level. It would be a great league, but far too expensive. You'd need a scholarship.

Chris has this right. If the girl doesn't love it, not like it or just OK with it, the diced up scholarships are the least of your worries. The demands on the student athlete catch most by surprise. We had a pitcher leave UD about 5 years ago when the 5 AM hitting stations and 30 hours a week of practice- in November- was more than she bargained for.

Many coaches have told ours during the interviews that those early workouts are going to happen. How could it be a surprise to anyone looking to play? That should be part of your interview discussions.

At least most girls are used to early hours long before college. How many do you know that get in front of the bathroom mirror in the early A.M.?
