That was just a dirty slide, and not just because it was a Yankee. It is a dirty slide if you are a Padre, Brewer, or Astro. The play at the plate was a hard nose play, maybe too hard nosed for a spring training game, but if a catcher is on the tracks they should expect contact with a train (runner).
I have always taught my DD catcher to have her head on a swivel when there is the possibility of a play at the plate. She knows to get out of the way and make a sweep tag, or if need be to be in way of plate. Sometimes I think she embraces the contact a little too much for me, but she knows what can happen and has dished out enough contact from behind the plate as she as absorbed to her 5'7" 115 lb frame.
