Do you keep them or cut them?

What do teams do? Does everyone have to tryout each year and you take the best 12 that show up at tryouts? Do you have loyalty to some of the girls regardless of who shows up? What do you (if anything) tell the girls who were on your team prior to tryout if you think you may replace them? Does it vary team to team, org to org?

likewise for Static 97 - 4 have been together for 5 yrs & 2 for 3 yrs with these 4. Every team usually will lose a one here or there which is unavoidable for various reasons. As a coach, I am a big believer in team chemistry.

I think it depends on where the team is going and if all the players can get there. If you have a team at 10U will all those players keep progressing with the team? Will they accept diminished roles as you move from low B to medium A? I think it is a harsh reality that some players just don't keep up, for a variety of reasons. Are you the kind of team that will stay at a layer because of it? Maybe you are. Maybe you are not.

I think player loyalty is very important, there are quite a few girls on my team that we've had for many years. I use the current season to judge whether or not the players pulled their weight and contributed to the success of the team. If they did, they are welcome back and a roster spot is reserved for them if they want it. If it is decided that they did not contribute like we hoped, then there is no guarantee they will make the team the next year. I like all the girls and I hate to hurt feelings but putting together the best team that I can to increase the possibility of success is my job as a coach. If I keep every player and don't try to improve our team every year, than I'm not doing my job.
