Dual rosters

I was told by someone that there was a young lady from Monroe, MI that was ASA rostered with a Michigan travel team and a team from Toledo, Ohio simultaneously. Now, I generally take what this person says with a grain of salt but, it did peak my curiousity as to its legality within the ASA governing body. Does anyone know if this is permitted and if so under what restrictions? I am sure with National play a player would (or should) be permitted on only one officially rostered team regardless of geographic boundaries.

Aside from their rosters, did both teams registered her with ASA? If so, that is a no-no and I suspect the first one to register her would take precedence.

ASA registrations run Jan thru Dec. Are you talking last year or this year?

Generally speaking, ASA rosters are only important for championship play (i.e. qualifiers and nationals). Since the teams are in different local associations (i.e. MI and OH), she can only be on a championship roster for a team in the association that registered her.

I don't know if you have ever done the online rostering but it is nearly impossible to put a player on a roster that is already on another team's roster. The computer does not allow it, it tells you that the player is already rostered on another team. I've had this happen to me a few times with players that were not rostered to anyone but our team and I had to make some phone calls to get it fixed. I can't imagine anyone being able to do that.

4Luv ... my guess is you got some bad info ...

I assumed as much from the onset as I stated that I take what this person says very lightly. However it was the crossing of state lines that gave me pause because I certainly can see how the different area comissioners may have missed something but, I was certain that it would be caught at the National level.

Thanks all for the input>

That's true if the 2nd team chose the player's existing profile. The system won't stop it if they create a new profile for the player. That's what I meant when I asked if both teams registered her.

Well yes and no.....unless you change the zip code and DOB.....but when you throw in the DOB, name, and zip it gives you hits.......

I do not know how you could do it to be honest. Not to mention the ASA Commish has to go in and approve these things......it is not done by a computer. And these people are not dumb or will to overlook something of the nature of a girl with the same name, DOB, and zip and just say "this must be 2 different girls..."...LOL

No they are looking for this type of stuff.

Regardless unless she has played in an ASA sanctioned event....it is very easy to declare or change teams. Once you have played in a qualifier with a team it gets very sticky....as I have been through the first and been told if she has played it requires that team to "release" the player. Which may or may not happen.

I have twins on my team and it was impossible to convince the system that they were 2 different people because the last name, address and DOB were the same....it also didn't help that their first names are similar.

The RegisterASA guide indicates you can still use the Add New button when it gives you hits. Klump's response indicates either that's not true or they have additional checks when you try to add a new profile. Regardless, I've learned in my professional career not to underestimate users' ingenuity to get bad data past validations. Add to that a coach that's highly motivated to get a stud player on their roster and using a different address is not so improbable.

Which commissioner? It's 2 different local associations, so 2 different commissioners.

Players can only participate in 1 local association per year. It might be possible if she hasn't played, but I doubt it would be easy to change to a team in a different local association.

Is it possible the player is rostered ASA on one team and something else (NSA / USSSA) on the other?
