If you want to kill softball; lets move it to the fall where we can compete head to head against S$$$r, Girls Tennis, Cross Country, Girls Volleyball, Marching Band, Majorettes etc. 'Optional' Open Gyms for the Winter Sports like Basketball, Indoor track along with Swimming and Lacrosse, will all be competing for our players.
Assuming that is okay with you, we could have a sweet start of the year, no question, but the regular season will wrap up in October with the playoffs extending into November. Tennis just moves indoors, S$$$r is just played in all weather....Is the weather for softball in October and early November any better than April and May? I certainly don't think so. The State finals could be decided in a sleet storm at 30oF instead of some regular season game between section rivals.
Finally, We would have to slightly rearrange the TB schedule, with tryouts happening in late July/early August squeezed in after Summer Ball and two weeks before school starts. Then nothing during School Ball until the first of the year. Two Day Spring tournaments would spring up to our benefit but Fall Ball would be eliminated.
I'd rather start the regular season two weeks later and take those weeks out of the playoffs. The State finals happen when we finally have great weather but only a few teams are still playing. In PA we have a month of playoffs with days between games, basically the same schedule as baseball. Let Baseball do what they want but don't drag softball into the same schedule. That would mean that our finals could be at the same time and we'd play the same games just over less time but we could miss March games altogether.
