My DD's team played this weekend in Zanesville. While warming up at Armco field #1 yesterday afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. game the pitcher of one of the teams playing on the same field took a line-drive in face and was transported from the field by squad. Just wondering if anyone has an update on how she was doing and what the extent of her injuries are.

I hope she is ok, on a side note, this is exactly why DD is required to wear a mask.

They were talking about that this morning at the fields but noone had heard anything. They said it was pretty scary.

We heard the crack of the bat, looked up and she was down. She wasn't wearing a mask.....we were guessing a 16u team?

Was this the 18U pitcher from Cincy Slammers? Or maybe it was another pitcher who was hurt?

I don't know if it was the same girl because we went to Riverside and she was waiting for her mom to take pick her up. My daughter knows the SS on the Cincy Slammers 18U and she told her about their pitcher but the pitcher was sitting in a chair waiting for the mom. Her lip was pretty bad. As soon as I get info from SS, I will pass it on.

My dd plays for the 12U Cincy Slammers and she confirmed that it was the 18U Cincy Slammers pitcher who got hit in the face. My dd said that while the girl's lip was pretty busted up, her teeth were still intact. I'm waiting for an update on her status from the coach.

Glad to hear all seems okay. A mask cost $35.00 and I know teeth are alot more than that. This is why my corners and pitchers wear them or they don't play. It is not a risk that is worth taking in my opinion.

It was the Cincy Slammers pitcher, my DD plays for the team the Slammers were playing and she did take a shot to her mouth. At last we heard, she received four or five stitches to the outside of her bottom lip and possibly the same to the inside...they said her teeth cut through the skin. She was sitting on the gurney when they were taking her off the field. That's what we have heard so far.
I really would like first hand news if any one has it and I hope she is well.

Thanks to all of you for your concern for our Cincy Slammers pitcher. As of this morning, this is the update that I received from the coach:

"This weekend we had a U18 player seriously injured. As of now, we truly don't know the extent of the injury because the Zanesville Hospital was not a trauma 1 center. They did not xray her face structure to be able to diagnose the extent of the injury. The U18 Pitcher took a line drive to the face. She did require stitches and was having a difficult time speaking and opening her mouth. She is going to her doctor today."

If you start the girls out wearing masks at 10u, they don't complain as the move up.

Her teeth ended up through her front lip. She had multiple stiches inside and out. Please encourage all infielders to wear masks. Those composite bats are brutal. My thought and prayers go out to her.

Any further word on the extent of the injuries, no fracture or dislocation?
