For Blue or Anyone That Knows Rules/Regulations

Just curious, are there any rules/regulations that allow a coach to have the right to ask for a different ump before a game?

If so, what are the guidelines since you don't know who's umping until you get ready to begin the game...

Before the game, a coach has the right to ask, I suppose. And the person assigning the umpires has the right to to tell you, "No".

There's no rule covering such requests before the game begins. There are rules that say once the game is started, requesting a change of umpires is not allowed.

I don't know of any rules or regs about this. There is no rule that states that a coach can demand that a particular umpire not work a game. Unless the situation is extremely dire, I wouldn't recommend trying to blackball an umpire.

Lets say you walk up to the field with your team and the umpire runs over to the TD and ask if there is anyway Team A could be coached by another coach.;&

Just Saying.....

As a TD.. what you will run into is three things:

a) Start the "process" of every coach "requesting" every event because this coach went out and told the whole wide world of tournament coaches that he got "this and this" done  by complaining  ,

b) Umpires being upset that you changed their game based on a "request" from a coach complaining about him .. This comes to mind  when the TD does this movement. It's kind of an unwritten code you don't do that with umpires as the thought is if you done every request to change an umpire because of "bad calls"... it would be a circus :)

c) if the TD moved the "umpire in question" ... just like in "A" above.. it will spread like wildfire throughout the ranks of umpires that you ( as a TD) done this and that you ... as a coach ... requested it.

So, now as a TD.. I have to make sure the next umpire on your field ... :lmao:.. doesn't fall under BOTH "b" and "c" category ... who is now mad because you done it as a TD and takes it out on you as a coach.

MY VERDICT: This is NOT a good thing to do . Neither of us.. as a TD and/or as a COACH .. will come out on the good side of this "request". :)

lol Thanks for the information. But I didn't say anything about bad calls, etc., you're going to get those from time to time, and who cares? It happens. I can live with that.

I'm asking due to behavior...I just want to be educated in knowing what rights a coach/team may have...

Behavior problems.. go to the TD and UIC.. explain fully.. and TD should use his option to insert the UIC or any other available umpire into the slot.

Behavior problems is a whole different story though. Never will that be and should be acceptable at any event by an umpire.
