Games you play with your players at practice?

Just curious, I have found with the 10U/8U players they really like competing against each other in softball games. For example we play golden glove which is an oldie but a goodie, Golden spikes which is a sliding/leadoff/stealing game, and a bunting game where we split the team into 2 teams and they get a point for every bunt down fair and an out for every strike or foul and they play to 21.

Looking for more ideas for games with my lil ones, would love to hear your teams favorite team games.

Thanks!

KNOCK OUT. Split girls into two teams. Use cones to set up two goals (no they are not ****** goals) to be defended about 50 ft apart. Pick a girl from each team and drop ball in middle to see who gets first posession. Girls then try to one hop ball through the goal. If a girl lets ball through, she is out. If a ball is caught in air, the thrower is out. Last team standing is the winner, other team owes push ups or whatever. Teaches them to step to ball, stay low, and to block it up. Looks like a combination of softball and hockey, but my girls love it.

I have split the girls up into 3 teams, coach is a pitcher, parent is the catcher. and play against each other. play 2 or 3 innings and the losing teams jog it out to the fence.
I have always tried to split teams by position, so all ss or 1st are not on the same teams. next team to bat is in the infield, team done batting goes to the outfield. Kids love it, works a lot of situational stuff. They also get an oppurtunity to try a new position

Wiffle golf ball game.
split into 2 teams, coach pitches about 10-15 feeet out
set up some cones in a straight line about 30 ft out.
defense behind the cones, everyone bats, then switch sides
They can not get in front of the cones until ball is hit (charging)
NO Gloves, and set up your out side cones and call that the foul line.
2 points for every grounder passing the line
5 points for every ball that hits the ground from the air
0 points for every ball that does not make it pass the line
-5 points for every caught ball
-2 points for a K
Batters learn to focus on a smaller object. defense gets very aggresive and they end up getting very competitve. It gets interesting as they set up there own defenses against certain hitters and the hitters make adjustment to how they set up there defense.
The past few years I have had teams ask to play this game. its great to play while warming up for a 2nd or 3rd game. losing team has some kind of punishment, running or # of pushups for the difference of score

Indoor knockout - indoor basketball court:

Use Incrediballs (or a soft, non-marking ball)

Split team into pairs.
All girls begin at one side of the free throw lane.
First team (2 girls) move into free throw lane area (they must stay within the area bounded by the free throw line, the lane side lines, and the out of bounds line under the basket) They can be side-by-side, or one up, one back - it's up to them to figure it out.
Coach hits line drives, one-hops, etc. from half court (brisk!!)
If the ball is fielded, AND a good throw is made back to asst. coach (catcher), the team moves back to the end of the line.
The team is OUT if a ball touches the back wall (usually a wall mat), and must move to the opposite side of the lane.
Last team standing wins.

The idea is to keep this VERY fast paced with brisk hitting/fielding - line drives can be crazy! This was GREAT for learning to handle smoked liners and hard hits. Got them ready for higher level hitting.

2 teams (great for conditioning)
Team A
Hits soft toss live and runs the bases, each base touched counts as 1
Team B
splits in half and goes to 1st and 3rd, once the ball is hit by team A they run after it and touch it as fast as possible so runner doesn't get a 4 or 5 base count.

Then Switch once all the way through.

Do it twice!!! Loser's put away the coach's equipment and remove the bases from the field.

At the end of every practice we split the girls into 2 groups. Half go to home and half go to 2nd. Then we do a relay race around the bases.

We have had the girls demand that they race again and again at the older ages.

This is an oldie but our girls love it.

Our girls LOVE the bottle game. Split them in half, half go to 2nd and half go to shortstop. We put an upside down bucket (you can use a tee and a ball instead of a bucket and water bottle) on home plate with an empty water bottle on top. We hit them grounders and they have to field it and mkae the quick throw to home. If they miss, no points/ hit the bucket, 1 point/ hit the bottle, 2 points. The first team to 21 wins and the other team has to run. They would play this all day if we'd let them!!!

I really like that for a warm up between games in a long tourney, seems like if your kids were flat or just had a tough loss, that might be the game to play.

Yes Uber we use it to warm up for 3rd or 4th games of t-ments.
I have also used it to break up the monotony of 6 days of practice in high school.

The girls ask to play this when they get in a hitting slump. It takes there minds off the game and helps to re focus.
That lovely statement your thinking too much at the plate, just have fun
