hbp - intent to move

two instances of a batter being hbp this weekend. clearly, no effort was made by either hitter to move (one was a mhsaa tournament and the other a usssa league game). i've been told by multiple people that there was a rule change that no longer required any intent to move.

i've looked in the u-trip rulebook and the asa rulebook and see nothing of the sort.

anyone know of such a rule change? it's very interesting i'd hear the same thing from 2 different people in two different states under two different sanctions.

I know the rule was changed for college. The batter no longer has to attempt to get out of the way of an errant pitch. The ball must hit the batter totally in the batters box for the batter to be awarded the base. Have not heard that the rule changed in any other saction.

Multiple people have been steering you wrong!

As noted, this is a college/NCAA rule change that should have no bearing on lower levels. And the NCAA rule says the batter needs make no attempt to avoid the pitch ONLY if the ball is within the confines of the batter's box.

Bretman, you should probably plan to TTT this every Monday morning, 'cuz I know a lot of people who have mis-interpreted it.
