Well no matter which way you come into the base or plate someone has an experience with injury. What I was curious about with a season of metal cleat use behind us did the OHSAA compile any statistical data on injuries with metal cleats last season? I asked our HS coach but he wasn't aware of any such stats.

It is really important that they learn how to do both slides, knowing them both technically and how to tactically employ both is more important.
Feet first.
Low and underneath or out and away, slide by/hook.slide past /tag.
Head first.
Low and underneath or out and away/ slide by/ belly spin and hook.

OK, I know this information is available. But where would be a good way to learn these techniques, should they not be covered by dd's coaches? My dd's only sliding instruction in her 2 years playing ball was at the summer OSU clinic. Which she loved by the way. Should we buy a DVD, or look for a college clinic? My dd loves the dirt. In her first ever game in first AB she instinctively slid, head first, 3 times, finally scoring on a passed ball. I treasure the memory of that dirty, sweaty, mud-lined smile as she ran to the dugout.

Thats awesome!! made me laugh and brought back some memories of some of the kids I have seen in the past that were like that. Just a blast to watch those types of kids.

BTW, I would think a good coach will work on sliding. I taught my kid as I was her first coach. I taught my team the same way I was taught lol, coaches after that built on what she already knew. I would say each coach she had brought a new wrinkle or different type of slide to the table.
