Does anyone have any experience with hitting/pitching instructional software? We want to video the kids and provide a side-by-side view to show them what their swing looks like on video. We would like this software to be dual purpose: hitting and pitching. Transparent overlay would be great also!

Thanks.

For hitting there is a version of Right View Pro that compares your player to top softball players, but it is pretty pricey and I don't believe that it includes pitching.

cgs,

I did look at this package and it is pricey. They have a basic package that is about $250. It is very limited on some of the features. The next package up (focusing on collegiate clients) is about $850. That is pretty drastic in price change. Not sure what else is out there. Many of these manufacturers do not disclose price on-line. Must be a reason for that??? Thanks.

Does anyone have any experience with the BatSpeed soution (MotionView)? It appears to be a little more manageable in terms of price.

The V1 Home free version can be upgraded for $40 for additional functionality including split screen analysis.

I never knew there was affordable software for these applications. Nice.

What software you need depends on your budget and requirements. For most single team or parent needs you can get what you need at low cost or even free.

I use Kinovea. It is great. It has split screen where you put 2 videos side by side and can individually advance them to sync them to a certain point, say toe touch and then use master button to advance them together to see differences. Fantastic for FREE. Never used v1.

We have the college version of RightView Pro and it is great. It really made an improvement with several girls in our organization. It will also do pitching and slapping. You can get all kinds of database of olympic players that you can set up side by side to compare your players along with many major league players. Their support system is very good too. We have only had it for just over a year and has already paid big dividends for some of our girls. As stated above, it is pricey but if its going to help the girls, it's worth it. I wish I would have had this back when my daughter played.

Looks like some good free software for analysis. Soes anyone know where you can grab good footage of college or pro hitters to use in the comparison mode?

Right View pro also has a free "common viewer" that will allow any user to view the RVP videos and any .AVI format. You can use the scrub through or frame by frame for viewing either file format. I have not tried an .mpeg file, but pretty sure it is also viewable. I ask my parents to install the "common viewer" so videos/instruction can be emailed to the parent/player.
