In my opinion if they they turn the head and eyes at the same time it looks like a blur. We have them turn the head a little at stride to give the head a head start as the eyes can move faster than the head.

If you are a passenger in a car look forward at guard rails. They will flash by and be a blur. Now turn the head slightly and move your eyes and one guard rail will be in perfect focus. We use the nose as a point of direction. If the nose is directed too far forward they usually top the ball. Too far back and they miss it or get under it.
