Sometimes I think playing on a team is too much, unless you have all the neccesties like bats ( the good ones), and things like that if you don't why would anyone want ti pay that much to play. I know i wouldn't, but that's just me!

( i play for 12U Crush!!!!!!!!!)

what is the point of this post?

It says how much did you pay to play, cant get much more clear then that.

I think it was around 600 dollars and worth every penny cause I get to spend quality time with my DD's watching a sport I really enjoy.

Ill try and clarify. My DD read a post earlier today where someone paid $900.00 last year to play and they only made 7 tournaments and one was the one they hosted.. EEEK. I believe she was just wandering what the average price was to play. We started a team last year and one of my goals was to keep cost down. Each girl paid less then $100.00 last year and with sponsors and fund raising we played in 7 quality tournaments.

LOL. Maybe it should read how much did your parents pay . I think most teams are right in the ball park on fees. Really no need to put exact amounts out there. We all seem to be in this for the same reasons etc. My fees are very low compared to other programs in this age group. We fund raise and obtain sponsors to pick up the rest. It builds team/parent unity.

I remember that after season 1 of travel ball was over, I was going to keep a detailed log of gas/equipment/hotels/team fees/etc (me being a number cruncher and all) but after a buildup of wadded receipts and crinkled memos, i thought, who cares..it's the time together you can't put a price tag on ;)

I think your right... if you added up everything, you might just freak out... I enjoy it soooo much though, that I would work overtime everyday to allow her to play and do the things I didn't get to. And it's not just about her, our whole family spends the time together and you can't put a price tag on that.... So I guess my Harley will just have to wait...... ;D

Boy I can't wait for the season to start.

We've had posts on this subject before and the true amount we invest in this sport is mind-boggling, but most of us certainly think its worth it or we wouldn't be doing it. ?As far as team fees, its up to each family what's a fair price and what isn't. ?It depends on what you're getting for your money and what's important varies from family to family. ?There' no way to put a specific dollar amount on this. ?If you're happy, getting what you need from your team, and can afford to play for them, then you're in good shape!

I agree that it's up to the individual family to determine what they can afford and if they're getting a good return on their investment. Our teams try to keep it as affordable as possible so the fee isn't a reason for a girl not to play. The experience of coaching my daughter and now coaching w/ her is priceless. For sure the highlights of my life.

How much would you spend on a vacation? For the last 8 years Travel Softball has been our vacation. It is really inexpensive compared to going to DisneyWorld, and a lot more fun for us.

besides the money you do spend, how about the ways to save? pack lunches (stay away from the mom that always wants to do a fast-food trip, bucks and energy down the drain)--pack a cooler and use that roll-wrap stuff as hair-binders...also, since u wont be in the hotel much, why worry about 5 star places when a tent/camper/roach motel will do!

You learn all kind of ways to save money, when you do this long enough. It's fun to watch the wifes doing team laundy at Midnight and trying to match up all the cloths ie , socks they have tagged, when the tags come off. Of course they say some choice things to us, while we just set around the cooler! , talking about the games.

Shouldn't the proper terminology be "pay to participate"? Not meaning to get hung up on semantics, but "pay to play" sends the message of guaranteed playing time, whereas "pay to participate" may only guarantee a roster position, and playing time must be earned - as decided by the head coach.

A minor technicality, but IMO, the root cause of disgruntled parents.

that also harps back to your other statement on another post there sammy (a classic one, btw), about playing your part and bringing your talent to make the "team" better, instead of expecting the coach to do it all....

about the only payment I've cringed about in terms of my DD was select volleyball...from what they pay, we're living the yeoman's life...yowza! what a rip-off!

if she ever made a team that had that many demands for money (not team fee, but out of town expenses) we might have to come up with some creative ways to pinch, but I wouldn't want to say no because of finances

also, I think to actually drop a dollar amount out here, it's going to make others feel resentment (you only paid THAT, well I oughta...) or make others mock someone else (you pay THAT, you must be a fool!) keep it within your team and pray the day never comes where coaches/org start paying the GIRLS!!!

If you add it up it is very inexpesive form of recreation, I mean you get to see your DD play 60-80 games at approx. 5 bucks addmission per game for the entire family and the family time well, ?;) it's Priceless.

Every team we've been associated with gave a detailed expense list or budget to every family. There were not really any questions about where the cash was going. If a team/coach refuses to show you the math, I'd be very skeptical...
