After many years playing for me, my daughter's first real tryout was this year at 14U. Mainly because I wasn't gonig to field a team after a disasterous stint with a local group of incompetents, so we were scrambling to find somewhere for her to play.

The first tryout was a bust because they had already decided to fold their 14U team and she would be vying for a spot on a 16U...that wasn't gonna happen. Tryout went well, hit the craap out of the ball and did great pitching and base running.

Second tryout(the next day) was supposed to be for a pretty reputable group. Her tryout went great, she hit and pitched better than this coach's ace. BTW she hit one about 220! The coach looking at her wasn't the 14U coach but we were assured that the word would come in a couple of weeks...to this day, 2 1/2 months later, I don't think that the coach that was at tryout, even mentioned her to the 14U coach. Won't ever even concider that group next year!

The third tryout came a week later and 5 minutes into the tryout, a girl who was warming up with my daughter threw the ball so hard AT her that it sliced her eyelid and cheek, causing quite a stir! There was one other girl wanting to tryout yet so we had to wait a week for the word. A week later a studette from another local team parted ways with her current group and took the spot my DD was trying to get.

Our fourth tryout never happened. the 3 coaches and some other players couldn't get a schedule to do the tryout.
We've decided to play at Kettering with a rec team from Tipp.

Just hope next year goes better!!!!

Boy, Why does Smiley's post make me think of the thread that says the reason HS ball is worse than TB is because of all the politics?

What happened to just playing ball? I could go on for days about my son's HS team and the boob who's "coaching" the team. It's all I can do to keep my mouth shut about his strategies and the lack of understanding of the game.

The one team I thought my daughter would be pretty well suited for is the one we never got any real answer from the coach. I guess the assistant coach that left knew something and I should've paid attention to that too.

Politics...I don't subscribe and that's why I left a local bunch. I'd be surprised if they're around next year.

It's always best to go as classy as possible. One of my favorite moments as a coach, was when a parent from the "other side" came up to my other coach and me complimented us on how we treated the girls with respect and the demeanor of the girls on the team. We beat their butts on the scoreboard too, but did it with class.

I hear ya'! When I was coaching a group of girls a couple of years ago, there was an absolutely awesome catch by the opposing SS. I voiced, "Nice catch Short!". My girls were agast. I explained to them that what I did should be the norm not the exception and that is what kind of people I like to be associated with.
