Yes Goph I think it was for playing too early . The rule is like out of state games have to be considered reg season games and they were a couple days early.

Is the draw to play out of state teams - or to get to decent weather and play/practice on dirt?

For DD's team it is level of competition...her coach schedules the toughest opponents possible in state and out...for a HS team we actually travel a lot around the state, and when there is out of state travel it is for top level competition....we go to TN next weekend for a "play day" which is a 40-50 team scrimmage of good teams from around TN and a few better ones from KY....fun as a fan to have a full day of games going on a dozen fields.....getting down to FLA on spring Break isn't a tough sell to the players either!!

And a playing 5 1/3 innings is considered an official game...?
5 innings is normally a regulation softball game (4-1/2 if the visitor is behind). However, the OHSAA general reg's definition of contests may be more liberal.

Section 4. Interscholastic Competition

1-4-1 Interscholastic athletic contest, as used throughout the Bylaws and Sports Regulations of the
OHSAA is defined as a sports event in which student-athletes from at least one school are
engaged in sports-related activities with students from at least one or more schools or non-interscholastic
programs. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduled contests, practices between
two or more schools, sports day, electronic contests, invitational contests, alumni games and
interschool scrimmages.

1-4-2 Instructional clinics and demonstrations designed for the teaching of fundamental skills and conducted
for learning theory, techniques, rules, game procedure and strategy shall not be counted
as a scheduled contest.

Is there a window of weeks that different districts schedule spring breaks - or is it totally up to them?
