Densevich leaving Hudson for KSU
Tuesday, January 01, 2008Tim RogersPlain Dealer Reporter
Amy Densevich will resign as head softball coach at Hudson in order to become the pitching coach at Kent State.

Densevich, who coached Hudson to the Division I state championship in the spring and was The Plain Dealer's coach of the year, will be returning to her alma mater to work for Karen Linder, who was her coach for her last two seasons at KSU. She will begin her new job Jan. 14.

"I grew up in Portage County, I played four years at Kent State (1995-98) and I live 10 minutes from the campus, so it will be like coming home," said Densevich, who was an all-Ohioan at Field, where she won 90 games in four years, eighth on Ohio's all-time list. "It will be like coming home. But, it was a tough decision because of the kids I'll be leaving behind. The Hudson kids were terrific."

Hudson's drive to the state title was as dramatic as any in recent years. The Lady Explorers finished with a 28-3 record, but were not ranked in the state poll at season's end. Once the postseason began it was a different story.

Led by Plain Dealer player of the year Beth Cinadr and freshman pitching star Mindy Meredith, Hudson won four of seven tournament games in its last at-bat, including two 11-inning victories in the district tournament and a bottom-of-the-seventh triumph in the state semifinals. It all culminated with a 4-0 victory over the state's top-ranked team, Elyria, in the state championship game. Along the way Hudson defeated second-ranked North Canton Hoover, third-ranked Pickerington Central and fifth-ranked Canfield.

In seven seasons at Hudson, Densevich's teams compiled a 115-60 record.

Wow - big blow to Hudson,But congrats to Amy in making that "next" step up and good luck to her. By the way did the old pitching coach Radara leave? I'm sure Hudson will find a nice replacement quickly
