Interference on 1st with a runner on third

I had a runner on third with no outs. Batter bunts down 3rd baseline. My offensive player, running to 1st, was called for interference, she made contact with the defense at the bag. I had a runner on third that took off when the play was initiated, she crossed the plate. Umpire called the runner at first out, as well as the player at third who crossed the plate. I asked the Ump for clarification, but he did not oblige. Did the Umpire make the correct call?

My guess, and it is only that, is the interference makes it a dead ball, runner returns to third?

I had a very similar situation last week. Runners at 2nd and 3rd, ball hit to SS, runner on 2nd runs into SS and is immediately called out. Runner that was on third and scored was put back on 3rd base.

Looks like you had a guy that made a bad call, knew it, and didnt want to make it right.

Happened in the OSU game yesterday and the runner should have been returned to third not called out.

He made the right call. If in the judgement of the umpire the interference prevented the relay home for a tag out he can rule both runners out.

I agree with Dragzilla. Same play in my game last week. Grounder to short, runner going to third bumps into her. Runner out as well as batter-runner at first.

The Rules Book specifically say "obvious attempt to prevent a double play". I don't see that in the OP or in BucketJockey's post.

More info is needed. Did the BR intentionally prevent F3 from making a throw home?

Bucketjockey...Your play seems cut and dry as to the way the rule reads. 8-6-10a, the runner interferes with a fielder making an initial play on a fair batted ball, runner out award batter 1st(fielder's choice) all other runners return unless forced to advance.

Don't look for outs, they'll make themselves appear!

The interference was not intentional, and there was no safety base. In the Umpires determination, the runner stepped on the line, and there was contact.
