Losing on purpose to get into a lower bracket, I was talking with a coach that played last weekend and he said a coach he played forfeit the game in the fourth inning to get seeded in the B bracket because if he won he was going to be playing against the number one seed in the A bracket.

He was leading by 4 runs when he forfeit the games saying he only had 6 players available to finish the game. The coach told me it was very obvious what he and the parents were doing.

forfeiting a game like that is absolute bush league. Now, I have seen teams pitch reserves, or use game as more of a practice scenario if the result of them losing is beneficial.

If the other coach knew what and why he was pulling that move - he should have beat him to the punch and tell him you guys are winning - we will just call the game official here and you deserve the win! Then either finish it out or go get a walking taco! Fix him and everyone in the event will see his BS blew up on him!

That is the silliest thing I have ever heard. A coach that does that is a Busch league Turd with a capital T! Play the best competition and let the Athletes sort it out on the field. Basically he is saying his team is not that good and he doesn’t believe in them. Bad coaching in my opinion. Trophy chasers. Well guess what... if they have a platinum bracket and a gold bracket and you win the Gold bracket, there’s still other teams that are WAY better than yours because they competed in the platinum bracket.

This stuff chaps my ass. Grrrrr. I agree w Thunder. If you knew what he was doing you should of beat him to the punch. Teach him a lesson. Who is the coach and team? Name them please. Parents need to know.

Wonder what the parents and players think about this coaching decision? Wonderful if they were even aware?

I'm at a loss of words...............lol

My understanding is that the parents were onboard. And taken their DD over to the warm up area to wait for the next game.

I’ve never done this before, but as a coach would find a few tournaments to play ever year to insure some late play on Sundays afternoon.

As a TD, I would have to give serious consideration to removing a team that pulled this. I would need to be there to know for sure as we are only getting a snap shot, but if this is accurate, they probably should go.

scheduling a tourney where you know you will be competitive versus a tourney where you are there to be seen by coaches is a different animal. like a local tourney versus the recruitfest at berliner. And i can see moving girls around and stuff like that if winning or losing the 3rd game on saturday doesn't impact Sunday starting stuff. BUT to just forfeit in the middle of the say 3 or 4th inning is just terrible.

I won’t say who the person is because he a great person. But even Great people make mistakes.

One TD let a team forfeit all games until Bracket play begin on Saturday night. The team went undefeated and won the tournament very easily. Well all other teams had played 4 games to get in bracket play.

the TD told me he would never do that again

Not knowing this individual - I will say this.
Doing it to play in a lower bracket is WRONG!
Now if by winning you have to face a coach like Matt Bailey first round, when you feel your team should be losing to his in the finals. could be a reason for such a move. But you need to have that figured out prior to 20 minutes left in a game....

lets face it, pool play can be a chess match at times. lol but you still have to play fair and that is not canceling or forfeiting a game. how about this - "GOOD! lets take the top team on first and hope we catch em off guard " - then if you win your team is a hero! and if they beat you and win it all you can say, hey, we got beat by the team that won it all so it aint all that bad! haha! :p

I would never forfeit a contest unless there were player shortages... and even then I would finish whatever contest we started...
