Monica Abbott's Pitching Mechanics

I am interested in finding out what other's think of this bend down stand up and begin your pitching mechanics as we know them today. ?(Originating from Monica Abbott ) ?

In the last several tournaments, I have seen several pitchers adopting this movement into their pitching mechanics. ?What does this do for them, except expend additional energy in their mechanics. ?I can't see any advantage to this.

I am interested in the benefits and any insights?

To me it is waste of energy   but being a pitcher's father they do develop their own style and whatever works for them is good with me. I strongly encourage her to keep it as simple as possible and concentrate on what her pitching coach calls the absolutes :) :) the other premotion movements are window dressing.

I agree with the last post. Talk to most pitching coaches or go to a Bill Hiillhouse clinic. They will say the same thing.

I thought Alicia Hollowell was doing that long before anyone heard of Monica Abbott. :-?

What works for M. Abbott, may not work for your DD.
I do not think a pitching coach taught her that style, MA, did that on her own, I could be wrong.
She should do what feels good to her.

I have been told by several knowledgable pitching coaches that the deep bend forward, combined with rapidly launching the body forward, is a recipe for potential injury to the pitcher's back, up to and including stress fractures in the lower lumbar region.

Wasn't Abbott sidelined earlier this year due to back problems?

simpson has a bend in her delivery, but its at the start of her continuous motion...nothing like abbot's 10 second delay ;D

Far be it from me to critique Monica Abbott's mechanics---it's working for her! ? ;D
But it seems when she bends down for so long and loses sight of the batter that she must have to hurry to re-sight the batter and catcher as she is in the middle of her pitch.

I have sometimes said this to dd (as she leans forward at start of pitch, she looks down) but she says her pitching coach says this is not an issue, since sometimes he has her pitch blindfolded to learn to trust her form. ?Is this just "Zen" coaching---"be one with the ball, grasshopper" or is keeping the batter in your sights at all times not really that important? ? :D

The announcers were talking about that during the World Series.
Tenn. brought in a sports psychologist and the whole ritual is part of her focusing on the next pitch.
That is why she had so many balls called on her for delaying.

my dd has the same, look down before the pitch, pitch. Her pitching coach said that was fine, it's all part of (her) routine. I have seen so many different styles from pitchers with the same results. It's about what is comfortable for that particular girl and keeping there mechanics. I think :D

Now I know where my daughter adopted that bend!! In the last couple of games, she has pitched that way(of course, after watching the World Series) and pitched horribly!! We had this discussion about that exagerrated bend last night on the way home from her first pool play games in the tourney. It just seems like a lot of wasted energy, not to mention focus on the batter. I feel better knowing where this came from. Now I gotta break this habit...quick, before the bad habit sticks!!!!!!

When you watch Monica pitch--she is bent over in more of a relaxing state. Monica isn't using much energy with that pitch. She is very relaxed.

We have all seen the pitcher that with a wild full-engery bend down, wild bend up, lean back, push hard, grunt, and release. They are usually exhausted within 3 innings. If they make it that long.

As long as they don't look like this. . .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbCcH05WLDw that is all that matters!!
