Not just a world class coach, but the kind of person you would want your children to strive to be. It's truly a sad day in the softball world, RIP coach Newberry.

Donna was a childhood "neighborhood friend" of mine - one of the guys if you will. She played TACKLE football with all of the "Newberry Drive neighborhood guys", and was always a great competitor. As I grew up, her success as a softball coach never surprised me - but it DID amaze me! Her mental attitude and drive for success was at a level few will ever attain. I'm very sad that she was taken from the world at such a young age, but we have to have faith that God has plans for us all... Rest in peace Donna, you will be missed!

I met Donna briefly at a NFCA coaches clinic. The coaches presenting the clinic had her stand and honored her for career wins (over 800 at the time and she finished with over 900) and her induction into the NFCA HOF. She was very humble and was very classy about her achievements. Sad to hear of her passing.

I got to see Donna in action this past spring when my daughter's college team played Muskingum. Donna was obviously ill and was seated throughout the game, until there was a bad call again her team. At that point, she came out her chair and went toe to toe with the ump and really let him have it. I think just about anyone else would probably have have gotten tossed, but I remembered thinking to myself that Donna had "earned" and deserved the respect she got from the umpire that day. May she rest in peace.
