New 16U Ohio ICE Gray Team
Coaches Eddie Chevalier and Keith McFarland
Eddie Chevalier comes with 6 years of experience with the Ohio Wolfpack. Keith McFarland has been coaching softball in some capacity for nearly 10 years, the last few with the Wolfpack.
I loved my experience with the Wolfpack. Leaving the Wolfpack and the great friends there was the hardest thing I've had to do in softball. My daughter is still not sure she coming with me. LOL. She played with the Wolfpack starting at 9U and didn't want to leave. I was the exclusive Wolfpack head coach in our age classification for 3 of those years. However, now with 5 teams in the 16U age class with the Wolfpack (with all great coaches), I decided that a move to the Ohio Ice would present new challenges and opportunities. The Ice needed an experienced coach for their new 16U team. This was attractive because of the long history of success of the Ice organization and being the only 16U team in the organization. Keith and I love training and working hard together to help kids get better.
Keith and Eddie's 14U team had another successful run this year. They never end quite as well as they might have. We played many of our games at 16U during the 2015-16 season. Starting in the fall they played in the Lasers Green 5 game friendly with 14s and 16s and went 3-2. The team played in the 16U Best of the Best Fall showcase for the second year and did well. They won the Wolfpack Fall Classic at 14U. We came in 2nd place at the 16U Spano Dome tournament during the winter. In the Orrville Fire in the Sky tourney, with 110 14U teams from 5 different states, we took 3rd place. We took 2nd place at the Tigertown tournament in the 16U age class. We played in the PGF Outlaws Summer tournament and went 4-2. We played in ASA Sheer Madness national qualifier and went to semis losing to Lasers Green 5-2 and gave them their closest game in the tournament. Our team played in the Stingrays summer showcase for the 4th year and were knocked out by the strong throwing Valley Extreme Kelm team 2-1. We won our pool and lost in the round of 16, tied for 9th in the 180 team All Sanctions World Series in Columbus.
We will play in 2-3 fall events.
We will play Spano 16U and 18U in the winter in Akron.
Last winter for the 3rd season our team ran the indoor live hitting and pitching league at the Hall of Fame Fitness center with gals from 10 different teams.
For 3 months over the winter we incorporated Jaeger Sports Arm strengthening and velocity enhancement program. Using J bands, long toss, medicine balls and arm action improvements our gals on average gained between 5-7 MPH in overhand throwing. We used Monica Abbott part of the Jaeger Sports program for pitchers underhand throwing and they each gained 5 MPH underhand. Our gals had zero arm injuries through their high school seasons and travel ball. One gal went from throwing overhand 48 MPH to 59 MPH and two of our 8th graders were consistently throwing in the low 60s.
We will play as difficult of schedule as possible with this team and hoping compete with the best teams in the state weekly as we always have. Our goal will be qualifying for ASA 16U Nationals. If everyone works hard throughout the season we will surely have a successful year in 2016-17 with the Ohio ICE.
We will be trying out all positions. If interested in talking with Eddie 330 806 4503 or Keith 330 705 0704. Eddie's email is eddie.chevalier@yahoo.com.
We practice at Sauder Field in Jackson Township(Canton) and the Hall of Fame Fitness Center also in Canton. We will be practicing thru the winter at the Hall of Fame and sometimes the Spano. We have access to a live simulation hitting machine that we will use extensively.
