NFCA - National Fastpitch Coaches Association

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has asked me for input in order for them to establish a marketing campaign for coaches in Ohio. In turn, I would like to throw the question out to this forum. What ideas would you have to help promote this organization in the state? For those of you who are not familiar with the NFCA, you can view their website at nfca.org Most college coaches are members of this organization. They also put on many very valuable clinics for coaches, two of which will be held in Ohio this year.

Thank you,

Why are they not doing the NFCA Recruitment camp in Toledo this year?

I don't know what specifically they could do in Ohio to market that they wouldn't do in every other state. But more generally, I agree with Spy Softball's opinion that the NFCA basically ignores travel ball coaches. The overwhelming majority of the memebership is from travel ball, but the organization is centered on college coaches.

I know it's tougher to organize travel ball coaches since they don't coach for a living for the most part, but I do think the NFCA could try to be a more effective voice to ASA and other organizations and perhaps produce a bi-monthly newsletter specfically for travel ball. With the whole controversy about the Gold Nationals recently, was the NFCA even remotely involved? As far as I know it wasn't. That would never happen if the NCAA had some big controversy regarding softball.

The NFCA has a yearly convention for college coaches. How about one every two years for travel coaches, but maybe only on a Thursday-Sunday instead of an entire week? I think at least the heads of organizations around the country would consider attending, along with many coaches who are heavily involved in the game.

Anyway, I think my marketing suggestion revolves around making the organization more attractive to travel coaches. All of us college coaches already belong.

Joe, Thanks for your comments.

Also, I am sorry it took so long to get back to you (rbaggs) but that work thing got in my way the last couple of days. To answer your question, I have been told that the NFCA is looking for bigger tournamnets in order to draw more participants. They may return to Toledo in 2011 if that does not work out.

Thanks again,
Frank Voss

I don't know how they market themselves now but direct marketing to HS coaches in Ohio might be helpful. Do they send marketing material to the HS ADs or to the coaches themselves? I know there is the OHSFSCA (way too many letters) for Ohio HS coaches but what they do for the coach compared to NFCA, I don't know as I belong to NFCA only. The state org does clinics during their annual meeting in Jan. but beyond that ??? I have never attended as I am always out of town that weekend.

There was some talk in our latest meeting about making some headway into the OHSAA, but nothing has been determined yet.

Thank you for your input,
Frank
