I know a lot of teams from Ohio travel to warm climate states to play preseason games/tournaments. If possible I would like to ask those teams a few questions about their thoughts and experiences. If you would like to share yours please let me know.

Mark - flabucki81680@aol.com or pm me here.

Same holds true for colleges that came down here

My dd's high school varsity team goes to a tournament in Myrtle Beach for spring break every year. This is only her freshman year and her first time going so I don't have too much info. I heard it was set up more like nationals rather than like a travel tournament in the fact that they play 1 game a day with alot of down time. I'm curious about the competition.

I know the girls are pretty excited to go. It should be fun and warm.....atleast it's got to be warmer than here!!! :)

It has to be part of their regular season unless they are playing in a state that touches Ohio. In other words, scrimmages aren't allowed out of state unless it borders Ohio.

Our spring break fell before March 29th. In OHSAA that means no spring break tourney down south.

We take our team to the Melbourne Florida area, and set up games with local teams.

For all those teams heading south, do the boosters fund this? Or just families? School?

Some of the parents I talk to tell me they do several fundraisers and if not enough pick up the rest. This would not include the parents though.

We have various fundraisers every year all year long to pay for the trip.

Expenses include chartered bus cost, hotel rooms for the girls and coaches, $20 cash for food for the girls daily, and cost of the tourney.

This year it cost each girl roughly $750 to go to FLorida. It is well worth the trip.

The fundraisers we do are a sub sale, spaghetti supper where we have silent auctions, another sub sale and a candy bar sale.

I have twins. In 4 years of HS ball, we have never had to write a check to make the balance of the $750 per girl we did not raise thru fundraising. In fact, this year we raised over $250 more than we needed per girl. My point isn't that my wife and kids and I LOVE fundraising, but rather with effort you can make this trip an inexpernsive thing for your family.

I must also add in we still have to pay for a condo for the wife and I, but we split that with another family or two and the cost isn't so bad.

Overall, it is a great team building activity all year long. Every girl that tries out particiaptes in the fundraising. If they do not make the team, the money goes into the team funds. Every player and parent knows this from the beginning, and it is the risk they take.
