That is quite a statement with some of the pitchers roaming the state.

I've watched McCrady pitch since she was 12U. I've seen her go up against the best in the state in both summer ball and high school ball. If there was someone better out there, I'd know her name. I'm sure there are people who disagree and I respect that. Just my opinion.

How about these stats for a catcher after 22 games: .619 avg 14 HRs 38 RBI 1.275 Slugging % .675 OB% and just 2 Ks in 86 ABs. Hits in 21 of 22 games and a 20 game hitting streak.

This isn't an Ohio POY award, its a NORTHEAST Ohio award, hence the Cleveland.com title. Otherwise, it would be Taran Alvelo from Bloom Carroll who is #1 all time in career strikeouts, was Gatorade national POY runner up last season, Gatorade Ohio POY, and is among all time leaders in Homeruns as well. 3 time state finalist, 2 time state champ, Washington Husky commit before stepping foot on a HS field. Considered the top pitching prospect in the country, pretty hard to beat that. There isn't a single player on that list not from NEO.

Let me just also say the list is a great group of players well deserving of awards. I know the McCrady kid is top notch for sure. But this thread title is deceiving.

Yes you are correct. It covers only the Cleveland.com viewing and reading area. The poll that is on the website is for "viewer interest and discussion" and does not affect or influence who eventually gets chosen. I have no idea who eventually chooses the winner, but I know the kids that are on the list get a kick of seeing their name in the news.

...As well they should, they clearly deserve the notoriety. My point was it isn't "Ohio Pitcher and Player of the year" and there would certainly be a lot more candidates from all 4 corners of the state if it were.

The poll isn't even inclusive of NEO as a whole.

Some coaches don't go out of their way to nominate their players. Or even call in box scores for that matter.

The two players mentioned have definitely earned their considerations. There are also slightly above average names mentioned that happen to play for deeper teams, as well as players who deserve considerations on stats alone that happen to play on HS teams that aren't as deep and/or as successful over the long haul. It's truly a mixed bag.
