Sarah Baker, the career record holder in wins at Baldwin-Wallace University, will be graduating from college in a couple of weeks, and will have the time available to expand the number of girls she is giving pitching lessons to. She's a teacher by education, and is very good at both working with brand new pitchers, as well as in working with more established pitchers without trying to completely overhaul their mechanics. For more info, please feel free to PM me here or contact Sarah at scbaker3@gmail.com.

My dd played on the team she was an asst coach for last season. She is very knowledgeable in the game. She is very articulate and knows how to relate to the girls in a language they can understand. If you are in the area and are looking for an instructor, you should give Sarah a look.

"relates to the girls in a language they can understand"? ...so she text/tweets them with instructions?:)

Thanks for the nice words, Andrew. Sarah is having a lot of fun coaching now 5 different students from 10-U to 14-U, and is feeling very good about the hard work from and improvement in all 5 girls. It's hard to believe that this is her last week of school (it's even harder for me after putting 4 kids through college!), but the good news is she now has the time to take on several more students.

Sarah is available for a very reasonable price for pitching lessons this summer. Whether you're looking for a new pitching coach, or someone just to help with issues as they arise, she is able to do this. She's also very strong at the mental part of the game ... how to learn from but forget the last bad pitch, how to look for hitters' weaknesses, etc. Please contact her at scbaker3@gmail.com with any questions or interest, or feel free to message me here.

I would highly encourage any parent looking for pitching or general softball coaching to give Sarah a call! My daughter has been working with Sarah recently to prepare her for her first tournament team tryouts. She is coming from a local rec travel team and trying to break in at 12u (01). My DD went from not knowing what to expect at a tryout to getting offers from 4 of the 6 teams she tried out for so far. The results certainly speak volumes for Sarah. Not to mention she has been very supportive to us personally- offering advice and support throughout the whole *very stressful* tryout process.

Joboo1drew was right on when he said she knows how to relate to the girls. My DD and I have never left a lesson with Sarah asking each other if we "got" what she was trying to teach her. She explains things, then shows them, then has your daughter try them and patiently corrects them and gives further clarification if they don't get it right. We have both learned something new and valuable from every lesson. Her rates are also the best we have seen (less per hour than some other less qualified instructors we went to when we first started out).

So if you are looking for any kind of softball coaching, you can't go wrong with Sarah.

My two daughters went last week for their first lessons with her, and they loved it! They are 4 years apart and at two different levels, and they both learned and enjoyed their first visit. Hopefully, they progress through the winter working with her!!

TaJJ ... thanks for the great feedback on Sarah! Being her dad, I am very proud of her!

Sarah actually told me today to let me know that aside from the lessons she does during the week out of Avon, that she will be offering Saturday lessons out of SPC Sporting Goods in Mentor for those who are based on the east side. I don't have all of the info on this yet, but should in the next couple of days. Feel free to contact me if you're interested, and I will pass on the info I have and/or put you in touch with her.

We actually live out by where her significant other is from, so we talked about maybe adding some time when she visits his family....we are an hour west of Avon, and 20 minutes east of Tiffin. That would work out great. Both girls loved the hour. Part of success comes from chemistry....having two girls who are complete opposites, it says a lot that they both liked her approach. No-nonsense, simplistic change. It is good having somebody who has just finished playing college softball teach and coach a kid who is driven to get there! Callie was taken back when Sarah told her she pitched 4 year of college softball, and did not throw as hard as Callie does now. It made her realize she has more to learn about the art of pitching, as well as cleaning up mechanics!

TaJJ ... that's great to hear. While she tends to be a little modest about her own pitching, there is truth to the fact that she never threw very fast ... topped out around 57-58 ... but she absolutely knows how to pitch. She always had the mental side of the game down very well, and I've seen her ability to teach that to others. She knew how to shake off the last bad pitch and she could read hitters extremely well, and then throw to locations that were either holes in their swings or at least where they could not drive the ball. Make sure she shows you her knuckle change sometime ... it was a great pitch for her that not everyone can master (big hands help), but it was actually her best pitch. Her philosophy is not about throwing a lot of different pitches, but about how to perfect a few pitches and be able to throw them where they need to be thrown on any count. Pitching is not about striking out everyone ... it's about getting outs, preventing runs, and giving your team a chance to win.

That's exactly what my 15 yr old needs...confidence in a few good pitches, and a good change-up!!! They already talked about the knuckle!
