Except for the top 20 teams from across the country the Rising Stars in Davie is a money grab.. hotels carry a $20/night surcharge during the events and the college coaches, when they are there, seldom travel from the main complex. Teams down here go (we don't anymore) because most teams don't travel outside Florida for exposure. The Gold Coast Hurricanes hold the strings at Triple Crown. It pays all their bills...lol
Diamond 9 had very cold weather last weekend. There were some quality teams there but the coaches were sparce. One issue down here is the timing. It is the first weekend of HS tryouts and most HS coaches will not allow their players to play in events during the season. Most of the florida teams that participated were teams made up of many different teams players that could make it. That said, the Fall Diamond 9 event is without comparison, period. The first year (2010) there were 215 college coaches signed in on Saturday before 10am - and all the biggies were here. This year there were even more. Unfortunately the first two years were strictly invite only. Maybe that will loosen up - but that will mean moving games to other complexes. Then the issue of coaches traveling will arise just like at Rising Stars. Disney has handed the reigns over to Diamond 9 to do all their softball. The Disney plan is to only host recruiting events in all of their youth sports.
