Ok I know high school pitchers may start with both feet on the rubber, but can take their left ?foot back behind the rubber and move foreward. As long as they start with both feet on the rubber.

?My question is what about middle school pitchers? Can they do the same. I would think so, because they are following OHSAA rules.

?My next question would be, what about ASA ?NSA USSSA and USFL? Can you do the same for them.

?I know in college you cannot bring your foot back behind the rubber.

Somebody break this down for me if you know the for sure answers.

middle school rules are the same as the high school rules so yeah she can move her foot back.

:) I know its allowed in high school but have always been told by dd pitching coach not to step back. She tryed it in school ball and then had a hard time adjusting to not stepping back during the summer season.

This is pretty simple. If she has even a remote thought of trying for college ball, she should learn to pitch by ASA rules, period (no stepping back). If she just wants to be a good high school pitcher and has no desire to pitch in college, let her step back (as high school allows).

Pitching demands finely honed skills, and it's very difficult to be successful switching mechanics from game to game, or tournament to tournament. Don't expect any degree of accuracy if she does switch back and forth. Truthfully, I've never been a fan of the "step back". It does give a pitcher a momentum advantage - that's why they took it away at the top levels of fastpitch.

Strangely, the ASA rules for men's fastpitch allows one foot on the PP and a step back. About half the pitchers in the league where I play use this method.

With some of the men throwing 80 mph, leaping being legal and no restriction on stepping outside the width of the plate, I'm not sure why they need the extra step to build even more momentum...but them's the rules!
