Before you start pitching drills, you must know pitching techniques. The type of pitching drills and number of throws entirely depends on the strength and age of the player. Every coach should teach the techniques first. This will be boring for the players but the coach requires good techniques of all his pitchers to prevent injuries.

Here are some great pitching drills for players:

a) . Balance Drill. This involves the pitcher "playing ball" from the mound, to get the feel of counteracting for the slope of the mound. Have a "catcher" set up in front of the plate, giving a good target to the pitcher.

b) Stay closed Drill. This is another drill that helps reinforce good techniques. The goal is to throw effectively, not hard, in this type of a drill.

c) On your knee Drill. This drill reinforces the hip and trunk rotation needed for a mechanically correct delivery. This drill is good for developing curve balls and change-ups.

What works best for one may not help improve others, so what drills have you used?
