Just a couple of questions in regards to 2009 Tournaments as compared to the past with the economic situation we are in.

TD's

1. Is the committment level the same for this time of year?

2. Do TD feel their will be less teams in the events this year?

3. What are TD's changing to get teams in their tournament?

4. What age groups do you find wait until the last minute to enter?

5. What steps has everyone taken to advertise their tournament besides using the OFC and their website?

Teams/Organizations

1. Is Player committment down for 2009?

2. When do Teams/Organizations finalize their tournament schedule?

3. Are Teams/Organizations playing in less tournaments than years past?

4. Is everyone trying to decrease the overnight stays due to the economy?

5. What are Teams/Organizations searching for when they choose thier tournaments?

Hope I hear some good responses from both sides so everyone can educate themselves for tournaments in the future. Good luck to everyone in 09'!:yahoo:

Just a couple of questions in regards to 2009 Tournaments as compared to the past with the economic situation we are in.

TD's

1. Is the committment level the same for this time of year?

2. Do TD feel their will be less teams in the events this year? No, probably more, the sport is growing.

3. What are TD's changing to get teams in their tournament? Working on presentation, make sure emphasis is on the girls. Possibly incorporate extras into the tournament.

4. What age groups do you find wait until the last minute to enter? ?

5. What steps has everyone taken to advertise their tournament besides using the OFC and their website? Advertise all over web, peer network/word of mouth.

Teams/Organizations

1. Is Player committment down for 2009? Dont think so, sport is continuing to grow, girls are still looking for teams.

2. When do Teams/Organizations finalize their tournament schedule? When ASA finalizes theirs. Here it is in November. Tournament schedule actually begins 12 months in advance for some tournaments.

3. Are Teams/Organizations playing in less tournaments than years past? No, we increased ours by 3, to 18 total.

4. Is everyone trying to decrease the overnight stays due to the economy? Always a concern, but have to play in quality tournaments, and overnight stays are unavoidable. Some of the cost is offset by sponsors.

5. What are Teams/Organizations searching for when they choose thier tournaments? Teams entered, Field condition, geographic area, usefullness in obtaining our goals.

Hope I hear some good responses from both sides so everyone can educate themselves for tournaments in the future. Good luck to everyone in 09'

Well MOB, I can comment on our situation. I agree with Team Ak with the sport growing but that also means more orgs are hosting tournaments to compete for teams. I believe you must listen to the community and adapt to the environment. Five years ago we were one of those orgs that ran drop dead tournaments with short games. I was actually involved in an ugly situation with the Cincy Doom and drop dead time limits that went in our favor at our home tournament. The doom was mad, it didn't feel like a real win and it didn't look good. We learned a lot and made changes so that situation didn't happen again. We now offer full games (1:45) and more games (5 and 6 game gaurantees). We knew we would have to take less teams with this format but we felt we would fill-up and the tournament would be what people have been clamouring for. We ran our fall tournament as a test bed for the format and we feel it was a success. Was it perfect, NO, but we took the suggestions and incorporated them into our summer tournaments. Judging by the response we have so far, it seems like it is working. We've split up our June tournament into two weekends to accomodate the number of teams. Our field this year will probably be the biggest we've had so far. In this ecomony, it's a buyers market. The teams will be looking for quality, value and established success.

The power of the OFC I feel has a huge role in the success of your event year after year. It's been said before that if you run out of TP at your tournament in Cincinnati someone in Cleveland knows about it in 2 hours. It has forced everybody to really step up and run quality events. Same goes with teams.

I think the points made so far are valid. Here's my 2 cents worth:

TD's

1. Is the committment level the same for this time of year? I think so--for all age groups. But with more events being offered, teams may wait longer this year to commit as they shop around.

2. Do TD feel their will be less teams in the events this year? Fewer--by design--to provide longer games and to provide some scheduling flexibility in case of bad weather

3. What are TD's changing to get teams in their tournament? I am changing Very little--the longer games are the biggest thing. Older established events such as ours at Beavercreek, Greenville, Jami Snyder Memorial, Loudonville, Toledo, Sluggerfest, GAPSS, Stingrays, etc and Showcase events have a leg up on those groups/TDs running new first year events.

And, of course, Beavercreek is touted by Johnnies to have the best "walking Taco" of any Ohio Tournament sites. So we aren't changing anything there.

4. What age groups do you find wait until the last minute to enter? 18 and over. I am not sure how you define last minute, though. Teams demand to know their schedule at least a week in advance and about the only way you could take an entry after the schedule is published is to have it replaces a team that suddenly drops out.

5. What steps has everyone taken to advertise their tournament besides using the OFC and their website? Nothing for all age groups except for 18 and over and I will post a tournament notice on the Eteamz web site.
