Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Re-Plant

Is this a replant? In Ohio?? Of course not!

But you can win a prize for picking the "appropriate" answer:

A) A pitcher who STILL chooses to pitch from 40'

B) A new combination ballet-softball move

C) She found a way to keep from wearing out the toe of her cleat

For bonus points, try doing this move yourself and actually DRAGGING the foot she's STANDING on! The trick is to actually keep it moving until the front stride foot lands! You know, the way the rule states it's supposed to.

For double bonus points, find her pitching coach and ask why this pitcher was taught this?

Civil......or sarcastic and incorrect? You decide....

I'm with you Sammy. Bear should shut this down.

But no, Len, I'm not withdrawing any of my posts and I don't appreciate you lumping everyone who pointed to the rules and raised questions about the possible replant as "bashing" this particular young lady. I don't even know her name. It appears that the picture was posted on her HS web site, so whomever posted the picture bears some blame for not recognizing that the pic in question would at least raise questions about that particular pitch.

The picture and thread gave an opportunity to educate as to what the rules actually say regarding a replant. I stopped posting because it was clear that the tone of the thread was going downhill, not because I considered anything that I posted as "wrong".

Sheesh.

Since I am one of the people you are attacking, let me say that I would NEVER bash anyone, especially, a player. I have tried (as always) to make general statements that are thoughtful and analytical. Just because I disagree with you does not make me wrong by definition. And I don't post a lot of comments on this site, because I only do so when I feel I have something to add, or a perspective that might have otherwise been overlooked. Please try to refrain from attacking those of us that do not share your opinion, and we will try to treat you with respect.

My opinion was at least backed up with fact and proof by posting examples. Your thoughtfulness and analytical skills will be respected if you have proof to back up what you post. I have defended this young lady, who I do not know by the way, from sarcastic remarks and people who think they know what they are talking about. OldGuy, nobody has to treat me with respect. I could really care less. I don't claim to know it all, as a matter of fact I posted earlier in this thread that I am not a pitching expert. That's why I went out, did some homework, and did indeed find out that it was possible to be in the position the young lady was in at the moment of the posted picture, and still be able to deliver the ball without a re-plant. People on here get a bit miffed when they are proven wrong, and it appears that this is one of those times.

I don't remember in any of your posts where you stated that this lady was pitching illegally. You posted about rules and proper pitching and you were never lumped in with the posters I was talking about. Those posters know who they are. You were not part of this group. The posters I am talking about are very few....three or four max.

Sorry Len... too old here to get drawn into those games, and I do stand by my posts. Most know my intent, so no worries. You're reaching for something that isn't there :).

Normally I would NEVER try to correct you, but don't you mean "COULDN'T care less"? For if you just "care less", you haven't yet reached the point of "not caring". :D Just havin' fun...

NOW the posts are making me laugh. lol. Calm down people. I don't know everyone that contributes to the threads but I don't believe anyone is putting any individual pitcher's picture (say that 5 times fast) with a bullseye on them to hurt anyone. Honestly, I've looked at everything shared in this thread and never looked 1 time at the uniform the kids were wearing.

My only comments have been about the original still picture shared and I still say you cannot judge it. You need to see a video of the entire pitch to know if something is wrong.

Anyone that thinks this is an illegal replant should read ASA Rules Supplement #40-F-1 and bretman's posts last November on a Crow Hop thread.

Crow Hop Post #31
bretman said:
We know what a crow hop is. It is a violation that happens before the pitcher separates her hands, accomplished by the pitcher moving her pivot foot off of the plate before the pitch even starts.

If the pitcher has legally dragged her pivot foot away from the plate, it can't possibly be a leap. If she has already separated her hands to begin the pitch, it can't possibly be a crow hop.

That only leaves one other possibility- the one I tried to describe earlier with the pitcher digging the pivot foot in to the point where she is causing her stride foot to land "an extra step" further ahead of where it would have landed from her initial push off the rubber. Frankly, I've never seen a pitcher that could do that.

Do we see pitchers who legally drag away from the rubber and then see their pivot foot twist, turn or dig into the dirt? Yes, I see that fairly often. I've also been instructed in umpire training classes that this is not a rule violation. Any twist or turn of the pivot foot can be disregarded, so long as it isn't causing the stride foot to come down at a "second landing point", as if the pitcher had taken two steps or pushed off from the rubber twice.
