Recruit e-mail suggestion

If I may make a suggestion on what girls should include in an e-mail to college coaches about their upcoming tournament...

1. Name of travel team (full name of the team, such as Buckeye Heat 96 - Lee).
2. Position(s) and jersey number.
3. Grad year.
4. Name of tournament.
5. Full date of pool play games, with exact start times, park or field name, field number.
6. Name of opponent for each game.
7. Address of field or park if the tournament has more than one location.
8. E-mail the proper coach(es). If the school's site says a particular coach handles recruiting, e-mail that coach. If not, e-mail the head coach and the main assistant. The assistant coach might be the main one making a decision on you, and will usually at least have a huge say, so get on his/her radar just as you would the head coach.

If you are writing a school for the first time, attach a player profile that includes contact information, grades/ACT and the rest of the typical profile information. Also, explain why you are potentially interested in that school. If the coach does not know why you are specifically interested in that school, you lessen the chances you will be watched, and greatly lessen those chances in many cases.

E-mail the coaches maybe Sunday night or Monday before the tournament weekend. If you e-mail more than about two weeks before the tournament, send a reminder the week of the tournament and copy and paste all of the information from the earlier e-mail.

Other optional things in the e-mail could include your team's uniform colors, which pool play game(s) you are pitching if you know that information, whether you will not be at any pool play games, the rest of your summer tournament schedule (leaving out pool play games for now) and any necessary reminders, such as "I was at your camp in January" or whatever else.

Finally, if you can make the schedule easy to read, so much the better. For example....

All games at Beekman Fields

Friday, June 14
3:00 p.m. - vs. Classics 96 - Mix, Field #4
7:00 p.m. - vs. Lasers Blue, Field #6

Saturday, June 15
8:00 a.m. (of course) - vs. Wizards Elite - Haas, Field #1
Don't put the "of course" in there, the coach might be an early riser!
