What's the best way to get recruited? also, are the recruiting agencies worth it? Is there anywhere listed all of the schools that offer softball from DI, down to DIII?

Thanks

I dont think DIII schools offer sports scholarships. Play in exposure tournaments, make a dvd, and "ho" that dvd to every college you can think of. I don't know about the agencys.

Go to http://www.nfca.org

On the left side, put your mouse over "College Fastpitch".

Then just pick which division you want.

An effective way of getting seen is to attend college clinics/camps at colleges that she is interested in attending.

Sidney ... there are lots of links and experts on the subject, but let me just throw out a few points. I think the 2 best ways to "get recruited" are to play on strong summer teams who play in the most competitive tournaments, and to attend college camps and showcases which is noted above already. As noted above, Div III schools don't offer athletic scholarships, but that doesn't mean their coaches don't recruit so depending on your goal, don't rule them out. College coaches do like to review DVD's, but to just send them out blindly is probably not worth it. Identify those schools you're really interested in, and schedule a visit to include meeting the coach and sharing with them your DVD. I've always heard that the agencies aren't worth it.

Its actually for a player on my team, I just want to try and make sure I have the areas covered and I don't want to approach it the wrong way. I don't have any kids involved in this, thus no motive to push one kid over another. It just seems like this next year will go by so fast as its her junior year and I want to make sure I don't screw this up.

But I guess ultimately it comes down to her and doing the work as well.

We did our own recruiting. Takes A LOT of time but well worth it in the end when DD is living her dream of playing college ball and loving every minute of it!

If she knows what she wants to major in the college search gets narrowed down. DD wanted Athletic Training so we concentrated on colleges that offered her major and sent her profile & DVD to those schools along with a short cover letter. Waited for email replys to come back and did follow up emails even if colleges didn't reply. Coaches will let you know if player is what they are looking for or not.

Come travel ball season you must email them to tell them what tourney you are playing in, game times, & field #. Give coaches all of the specifics where you are playing because they may not take the time to look it up themselves when they get to the fields. Remember they have a lot of girls they are watching. Email them again a couple of days before your tourney to just give them a reminder of where you are playing. Coaches usually have their schedules before they get to the tourney of who they want to watch, what time and field so hand-feed them your players info.

You must play in the tourneys where the "elite" teams are playing. That is where the coaches will be. CompuWare draws a lot of coaches and there is a tourney in Akron that draws a lot of elite teams but can't remember the name of it right now. I know there are a ton more. Toledo has a tourney that draws a lot of coaches.

The coaches communicated very well if they were attending your tourney and were going to watch you or were going to another one that weekend. I was very impressed with the email correspendence the coaches had with DD.

If your player is going to QDS do follow up emails with the coaches that she knows attended the showcase. They will give her feedback.

Good Luck!!
