Recruiting Mishaps

sad, some dugouts are so tiny, i would take up half the dugout...this weekend in pick i will b n the dugout, i can hide in the shade, but like in berliner, i sat next to it and sometimes i end up with the parents (not that its a bad thing)...of course, i generally cheer and keep the girls up, lot easier in 16's..in 12's and 14's i was in charge of letting em know the lineup, who was on deck, pre-workout drills...16's is the pinnacle of scorekeeping!

and all coaches be on alert, u see a cute little kid with a bat walking toward ur bucket of wiffle balls, u will go through at least a minimum of 3 sets before he even considers leaving u alone

This is a very helpful thread. I never really looked at the water/gatorade thing as an issue, but I can see how distracting that can be. When I score I sometimes sit outside the dugout and the girls will come and talk to me out there. Really they should be in the dugout cheering on their team. Maybe I'll bring that up at the next game.

Hey hold on there lady, I think my dd get's her best advice from you most days outside the dugout. lol

DDs TB coach for the past 3yrs has supplied water/gaterade in a large cooler for the dugout, the only time parents saw the DDs was if they needed Tylenol, which usually was in someones bat bag, the dugout med-kit or last resort from the first mom as they were walking out of dugout. Our parents were so efficient in keeping the girls in the dugout, as to not upset the coach. This is our first year without that coach (he moved back to younger girls) and man do we miss him, we never had to worried about packing drinks for in the dugout, just our own stash. Man she goes through the ice & water ...

Back to the topic, I think when DD started 14u, we had a discussion on the manners of a softball player in the public eye (college coaches eyes).
*She was to carry her own batbag & a smile
*Team shirt was to stay tucked in and socks up until she was in the car
*If she felt the need to be negative it was only allowed to be in the car
AFTER we had pulled out of the ballpark and it could only last until we
arrived at the next stop.
*No negative attitude was allowed in the hotel either, you never know
who is staying at the same hotel.
*During games I am only there for a signature in case of emergency &
enjoy some fastpitch games (if you need something, it will have to wait
until we are in the car).

As someone said previously, these coaches want young adults who can handle themselfs like adults and have a sense of pride.

DD chose DII school, pitching coach recruited her because of her talent, maturity, & love of the game. (if only he had heard her in the car!:lmao:)
