Region of State that claims "Hotbed"

I have been a long standing traditionlist that in terms of fastpitch softball, the Northeast Region is the strongest of the four regions. ?I am partial to Central Ohio softball, and they can hold there own, as the Southwest and Northwest regions can.
But for overall talent for 2008, is the Northeast still "Hotbead". ?

Now the Central District will inherit the Southeast as they do in the state tournament run, and that beefs up II,III, and IV.
Southwest Claims Dayton and Urbana, again, solidifying the smaller divisions.

I know we can use past champions as a solid indicator as to who has the best team each year, but overall talent pool, which region is strongest? ?My gut feeling is the Northeast, as I can't shake the Akron-Canton-Massilon-Uniontown-Youngstown-Ravenna- connections.

Any thoughts :-/ :-/ :-/

Re: Region of State that claims "Hotbead"

I've always said I think the Akron-Canton area is the strongest. I use travel ball as my gauge, as it's a little easier to do it that way. I would throw all of NE Ohio into the mix, because I don't see the Cleveland or Youngstown areas as being any better than Columbus, Toledo or SW Ohio. It's strictly Akron-Canton.

One of the reasons is that I think Columbus and maybe other areas lose more good athletes to soccer and basketball than maybe Akron-Canton. Wherever a sport has a strong tradition, it will attract the best athletes, and that's Akron-Canton.

Sorry oldtimer but I just couldn't resist.

The only bead society in Ohio is in Columbus so I'll have to say Central Ohio has the hotbeads.

As for softball, I will also go with the Akron-Canton area (NE).

wvanalmsick,

You know, I wish I could blame it on my wife having my glasses, but I had them on!
At least I am up to three fingers on the keyboard at the same time ;D
Somebody please show me how to use spellcheck ;D

I agree with Akron-Canton(NorthCanton)
I lumped the entire northeast to keep it consistent with the state high school tournament. I also know that Massilon, Poland, Niles, Talmadge, and Cuyahoga(Walsh Stow country) county take offense because they do pretty well on their own, and they are northeast ;)

Oh, and Uniontown is Uniontown - the racers can play great ball - and they are not Canton (I made that mistake once)!

Ex,.....I'm not sure where NMO is. Is that North Middle Ohio ?? ;D ;D ;D ;D or did your W fall upside down and become an M. Gotta love the loyalty you show our corner of the state.
I don't think we're the "Hotbed", but I think our area is improving rapidly and icreasingly becoming more competitive with the rest of the state.

No reason to be scared 1040.... Thunder's favorite line is "I will be over for a bite to eat"..... he doesn't care if you are a pretty face, just a good cook!!!!!!!!
