Yesterday question of the day, (The dilemma of changing softball travel teams during the travel seasons why, when and how.)

Today question is for Coaches.

Removal from Team, Coaches when is it time to let a player go?

All Coaches at one time, has dealt with problematic player, parent. Sometimes you catch the problems early and get everyone back on track, other times your unaware you have a problem until it turn into a coaching nightmare.

I faced the Coaches nightmare maybe once or twice myself. It one situation I had to kick the player off the team due to her father an mother actions. In another situation after talking with the parents and players we was all aware that there daughter wasn't really interested in playing softball any more, so they agreed it was a complete waste of money and time to continue playing.

Both situation were stuff, they both were very talented softball players, in one case the father and mother were completely out of control, in the other case the father and mother were very supportive but unfortunately the daughter was running with the wrong crowd and nothing was going to changes that situation. Yes the parents did everything under the sun to get her back on track but the more they try the worst it got.

Other reasons you may choose to remove a player from your softball team roster.

A.) Constantly breaking team rules.
B.) Missing practices, missing games.
C.) Too many players on your roster.
D.) Coaches lacks the skill set to help the player advance. ( most coaches would never admit this because their egos are too big.)

Today let's discuss situation that would place you the coach in the position to remove a player from his/her team.

Your first two posts are certainly hot button issues. I will let those more experienced than I respond... But interesting posts for sure.

My only question is, will there be a dramatic inducing question daily?

Yes, I'm going to post something new Monday thru Friday. On Friday the new post will be in the form of a question only and won't be very informative.

If anyone has a discussion they would like to see stated they can private message WeAskYou and I'll post your new post anonymously. After talking with Rick over the year he has told me a lot of people won't post because they don't want slammed or afraid it will be held against them and their daughter(s).

How about lack of effort. Had to deal with this twice over the years in opposite ends of the age spectrum. The older girl resolved the issue after a sit down with her and her parents. Btw parents were fully supportive and agreed with our assessment, which I whole heartedly think this was the biggest reason for the girl getting back on track.

Same situation with the younger girl a few years later, we handled it the same way. However I don't think we were on the same page with the parents away from the field. So after a month and a half of no changes we had to let her go! Sometimes those tough decisions help them learn noving forward and sometimes not so much!

I like the idea of positing topics for discussion. I certainly don't ever think a post should be deleted. Its the internet folks. There are a lot of insidious post on here. But having a avenue for posting because folks feel like they will be criticized? Really? Most of us are adults, do we need a moderator to send post to so they can post for us? Hmmm not sure where the value is with that. We already have enough crazy post from members with 7 different screen names, now we want a platform to do it anonymously? Don't be afraid of debate. Its a forum. It should create conversations. Have convictions about your opinions and let it be what it is.

Now the slanderous type or abusive posting is the gray area. Its free speech until someone is offended.

What about the money? Under what circumstance of removal or resignation will the coach give the money back?

That's a very good question, and deserving of its very own thread.
