nyone know what exactly the rule is reguarding metal cleats at the 12u level? I was told there was a rule change that now allowed them but I'm not so sure. Is it ASA,NSA or what and why would they allow metal cleats at 12u?

There has been no change to any of the softball associations other than OHSAA. OHSAA will allow metal spikes in games starting this year.

If your child is not playing HS ball, you will not be affected.

More accurately, metal cleats are now permitted under NFHS rules (National Federation of State High School Associations).

NFHS is the national body that governs high school playing rules for most states.

OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) is the state body that governs issues of eligibility and participation for high school sports only in Ohio.

They are two separate and distinct organizations. OHSAA does not dictate playing rule changes to NFHS. NFHS, in turn, does not dictate issues of eligibility or participation to it's individual state members.

NFHS changed the national rule regarding cleats, not OHSAA, and Ohio subscribes to their playing rules.

That point aside, Lady Knights is correct. Below the college level, only high school softball will allow metal cleats. All other sanctioning bodies- ASA, NSA, PONY, USSSA, etc.- still have a metal cleat ban in place.
