Can NAIA, and NJCAA schools give out assistance in forms of scholarships to players? I heard if a DIII school wants someone bad enough they will try their best fo find a player financial aid, or academic money?

Help on these topics is appreciated. Thank you.

As far as D3 goes, talking with Joe A. has led me to believe that the coaches hands are pretty much tied when it comes to trying to get money put into a financial aid package. The student/athlete has to take what they can get from grades and grants and loans.

I know that talking with my niece who plays on a NAIA school in Ohio, she does receive some scholarship money, which is maybe 1/5 of the total cost. The rest comes from grades, grants, and loans.

Not sure how JUCO colleges work.

I don't know if this is true for all NAIA schools, but we have learned that all money a school awards a softball player comes out of the softball budget--whether athletic or academic money. My daughter has received several scholarships from NAIA schools that include athletic/softball money.

At the Div. I JUCO level, athletes are awarded a full ride that includes books. If there is not campus housing and food, athletes are sometimes awarded a stipend that is used to cover the meals and accommodations.

NAIA schools can give scholarship money for athletics, but they do not have the same number of scholarships as D1 schools have. They will split scholarships to give money to more students. However, if they really want you as a player, they can give a full scholarship. It would just decrease the amount of money they can give to other players.

As for D3, I don't believe the coaches have any say over scholarships, but in some schools, they definitely have a "voice" in the financial aid department for certain "merit-based" scholarships.

Only one NAIA school told us how many scholarships they had available. They have 10 scholarships and carry 18 players.
