One thing I think coaches and parents need to remember it is where it crosses the plate not where the catcher catches it or where your daughter is standing. I see a ton of coaches complaining about pitches that are perfect but drop below zone when it gets to glove or rise above the zone. The other thing is if you are sitting on the side you can not tell if a pitch hits the corner of the plate or not. lol Just some of my pet peeves.

As I tell my coaches don't complain just adjust to his or her zone.

Whew I feel better now. :)

How does this sound? After my DD's last game on the way home she says, hey Dad, get this... Our catcher told me half way through the game that the umpire told her,
"I'm not going to call low strikes, strikes on the third strike..." Just on the third strike though..."
Whhhhaaatttt????
This was a D-1 high school game umpire!!!
Didn't really matter because DD pitched a 1 hitter with 11 K's in 5 innings but still....

how many strikes zones are there really? i would say about 3. (actually age groups and level of play will have slightly diff ones too) 1 for rec ball - 1 for HS ball and another 1 for travel ball. like i said, even age groups have slightly different zones too. 10u zone is a lot bigger than the 16u and 18u.

Either way - a good pitcher or coach will ADJUST to the moment. ADJUST to how blue calls it that given day. One thing i hate is when a pitcher throws up her arms or makes a "what the heck" face on a ball she thought was a strike and was called a ball. don't disrespect blue! Make an adjustment and go on pitching your game. SAME goes for hitting.... dont cry and whine about calls that are maybe outside strikes that you thought was a ball..... learn how blue calls the game and make adjustments in the box and your approach just like a good pitcher will do. this should be done before you even get into the box (unless you are lead off batter) but by the second time thru you should have a plan.

Not sure we see those actions outside of Rec Ball. Occasionally high school... But not to prevalent at travel level because coaches won't put up with it and players at that level know it would be cutting their own throats if seen doing that...

We trained to make our own strike zone… Now I am not saying we were free swingers but, we did work on the pitches a ball length outside or around the box. Once you get proficient at hitting your zone it makes it tough for coaches and pitchers to adjust…
