Hitting and Hitters Discussion Slapping Me Silly Up North of Dayton (Slapping Instructor Needed)

I know there are quality instructors around Cinci and other areas but I don't know who they are in the Dayton area. I'm just a bit North of Dayton (I-70/I-75 intersection, sort of) and would like to know someone I can use consistently, which means close enough to get to on a school night.

I'm looking for someone who can help HER as well as ME. I'm going to be the one reinforcing and doing additional drills with her so I want to be able to ask questions (as needed).

Also if there is a quality DVD out there that I can pick up for my personal knowledge I'm thinking I can augment in-person lessons.

Got any names?

After a lesson with her instructor, can SHE explain to YOU how to do what she just worked on during an hour lesson? If she can't, be sure it's really sinking in, and that she's completely understanding what her instructor is trying to teach. I understand what your intent is (knowing how to help her with drills and all) but in the end - she's the one that MUST know how to self-correct, make adjustments etc. Having her explain (or demonstrate) it to you later is great for reinforcement of the learning process, and instills in her the importance of HER knowing it, and not just dad! :)

Sammy -> Agreed. One of my goals with my kids and the players that are on my various teams is that they can coach themselves and well as others. I speak to it and help them get there but only a few take to it. Maybe I could be better at helping them do that, not sure.

When we do drills that a require a partner I task each one with making the other player better. It is their JOB.

So.... part of that is understanding what you are being taught well enough to show someone else.

I would expect for her to show me things after lessons but her actual UNDERSTANDING of it would come slower. I can sit back and watch the lesson and pick up what and why an instructor is doing what they are doing. A few additional questions and I'm good to help her until the next session.

Larry Ray has a couple of videos out, he's the guru of slap hitting. I got my videos directly from him I went to Arizona's web site emailed him and he emailed me back within a day. I also as well as my DD watched countless hours of slap hitting clips, there is a team in California called the mavericks that has a ton of clips on slapping, the Guy that ran it coached Laura Berg. Very knowledable Guy, he steered me towards coach Ray. Ernie Parker's site also has slapped clips, his go in slow motion then normal speed. Sorry I don't have any of the sites handy. Good luck and welcome to the world of giant strike zones, close calls at 1st and other parents asking " why don't they have her swing away if the 3rd baseman is that close.

I know Jodi and have used her for pitching. My daughter won't be going forward with pitching after this year (probably) but I did like her interaction with the kids the few times we did see her.

Good suggestion.

Thanks Uber, I'll use my good buddy google.com to find the resources you have suggested.

Uber is right. Larry Ray. I have tons of slapping stuff at home . The DD got to spend time with Laura Berg and picked her mind on slapping. Thanks to my friend Howard and CB. Only good slapper that I know your way. Coach Cassie Cunningham at OWU. She runs small ball and slapping camps. She is very good with small kids. Coach B when he was at WSU use to have small ball camps. The DD went to his camp every year he was there. (She was in the 7'th grade 3 years!) it became an Inside joke with Coach B.

Cassie Cunningham (Head Coach OWU) will be putting on another clinic in Mt. Gilead, Ohio on Nov 7, 2010. I will be posting something in the next few weeks on Camp Sign up.
