MARION, N.C. – After a tough 13-4 loss in game one, Montreat softball bounced back with a 4-1 win in game two to split a doubleheader with Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Point University on Saturday at Big League Camp in Marion, N.C. The squad moved to 3-3 in AAC play, 12-14 overall.

"We showed a lot of resiliency after losing the first game like we did," said head coach Heather Maston. "I was proud of the team for taking the lead and finishing the day on a strong note with game two."

Game One: Point 13, Montreat 4
Montreat finally got on the board on the bottom of the third when Mikki Shelton knocked in Liana Elliot with a double to left. Kelsey Nolasco then walked with bases loaded to score Bree Powell and make it 7-2 in favor of the Skyhawks.

Montreat got a run back in the next two innings as Victoria Hill blasted her first homerun of the day in the fourth, and Nolasco pushed Abby Swilley across with a double to center in the fifth to make the score 8-4 Point.

The Skyhawks would then put together a five-run sixth inning to end the game.

Rounding out Montreat's hitters were Swilley with a multi-hit performance alongside Liana Elliott and Ashlyn Vickers.

Starting pitcher Cailin Warner was credited with the loss, allowing seven earned runs and striking out two batters in three innings. Allison Moody entered the circle in the fourth inning to strike out four Point batters in 2.2 innings before Jose Harris stepped in to close out the game.

Game Two: Montreat 4, Point 1
Montreat bounced back and held Point to just four hits in game two. Starting pitcher Charlie Smith went the distance with six innings of shutout softball before her shutout was spoiled in the final inning as a result of a pair of errors by the Cavs.

Hill opened the scoring in game two with her third homerun of the year, a two-run shot in the second inning.

Montreat picked up another pair of runs in the fourth when Shelton, who finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate, knocked in Bartkewicz and Nolasco with a triple to deep right-center.

Bartkewicz and Destiny Munoz were the other two hitters for Montreat in game two.
