Looking for opinions on playing softball on a baseball diamond (grass infield) at tournaments. I was in a conversation with someone today regarding it and we had very differing opinions. Rather than be hard headed with my own opinion, I would like all of your thoughts. BTW, I am NOT calling out anyone who runs a tournament and is forced to use baseball fields! Does it impact your interest in that tournament in the future if you know you will likely be on a grass infield? Do you think it changes the way the game is played? Etc? Thanks in advance.

Grass infields definitely change the game, and if I knew before I signed up for a tournament that we might be playing on grass, I would avoid it if I could.

I have heard recently that the Nationals my team will be attending in Orlando will be played on grass. Heard that a lot of the Southern teams are going to Destin Florida instead cause of the grass.

Grass infields do not work well as a playing surface for fastpitch softball. The dynamic of the game changes drastically, especially when you consider how much of an impact small ball has on the game. If you call your 3rd baseman the suicide corner on dirt, imagine the danger you'll put her in playing the position with a grass infield. As mentioned above, I would reconsider my schedule if I knew in advance we had to play on an old baseball field or any field with grass infield. Just my opinion........

Dirt, Dust, or Turf. No grass please.

Besides all the above mentioned reasons it is also not a good look. The game of baseball and softball are equally great, IMO, but 2 different sports. When you play a softball game on a big baseball diamond it looks like "baseballs little sister" and I don't like it.
