PALMDALE, Calif. – The San Diego Christian softball team dropped both ends of their opening weekend doubleheader to the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers Saturday.

In game 1, the UAV jumped out to an early lead, logging one run in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning for both teams, a tough third inning for the Hawks allowed the Pioneers to tack on an additional 5 runs.

The Hawks then posted two shutout innings and started to chip away at the lead. After Keelee Davis hit a 2-out single in the fourth inning to bring in Joselle Nicolas, San Diego Christian would add another run in the top of the fifth when an errant throw by the Pioneer catcher gave Jennifer Rivera home. In the bottom of the fifth, however, Antelope Valley would bag four runs on 3 walks and 4 hits to apply the mercy rule and take the game 10-2.

Game 2 saw the Hawks grab the early 4-3 advantage with a two-run first and a two-run second inning. Despite the early offense (doubles by Katie Thompson, Kayla Domingues, and Julianna Campusano) the Hawks bats then went silent and a 3-run third by the Pioneers would ultimately lead to an 8-4 loss.

Next For The Hawks:

The San Diego Christian Hawks take on La Sierra University in their home opener doubleheader on Friday, January 31 at the Santee SportsPlex. Game 1 First pitch is at 11 am.
