SANTEE, Calif. — The SDC softball team was tied late in both games of the doubleheader against Simpson University on Wednesday.

The Redhawks, unfortunately, won both games with runs late to take the sweep.

In Game 1, the Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the second, after Simpson scored three in the top half of the inning with a 3-run homer. Montana Potts was able to hit a double down the left field line to score Kaylyn Rubalcava and Emily Espino.

Rubalcava tied the game with a double to center field that scored Noemi Farfan. But the Redhawks scored three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh for the 9-3 win.

Potts, Bailey Romano, and Rubalcava led the team with two hits apiece. Madison Bostick started the game and lasted three innings. She struck out three to go along with five hits and three earned runs, the homer in the second. Madelyn Jacobs was tagged with the loss throwing four innings of relief. She allowed six runs, five earned, with two strikeouts.

The Hawks scored first in the second game with a run in the bottom of the first. Espino hit a single to right field and scored Tori Harris. The Redhawks tied the game in the third before SDC regained the lead in the sixth. Potts hit an infield single to shortstop that scored Elizabeth Wilson from third.

Leading 2-1 heading to the seventh inning, Simpson scored five runs in the top of the inning. The lead was too much for the Hawks to overcome.

SDC falls to 10-21 on the season. They host Vanguard on Saturday with the first pitch starting at 5 p.m.
