The Montreat Cavaliers softball team remained in Georgia and in warmer weather today as they faced the Point Skyhawks in West Point. While the Cavs battled the 17-15 Skyhawks tightly throughout the afternoon, they came up just short in the doubleheader.

In the first game, Abby Swilley (SO/Riceville, TN) went the distance and pitched nine solid innings but offensively Montreat was limited to six hits and one run as they dropped a 2-1 decision. Mikki Shelton (SO/Old Fort, NC), Kelsey Nolasco (SO/Casa Grande, AZ), Ashlyn Vickers (JR/Ellenboro, NC), Liana Elliot (SO/Old Fort, NC), Danyelle Joli (FR/Battle Ground, WA) and Allison Moody (SO/Belmont, NC) all had hits for the Cavaliers, and Victoria Hill (JR/Beaufort, SC) drove in the team's run in the top of the seventh to tie that game at 1-1. It took until the bottom of the 10th to decide the game as Madyson Brown of the Skyhawks doubled in the winning run.

Montreat totaled three stolen bases in the first from the trio of Nolasco, Shelton and Morgan Meredith (SR/Coalfield, TN). The battery of Swilley and Vickers kept the Skyhawks close to the bag and without a stolen base in the game.

In the second game, the Cavs were productive at the plate but dropped a 10-7 decsion, as the Skyhawks jumped out early with a five-run first inning. Pitcher Allison Moody had two hits, including a double and an rbi, in the second game. Nolasco, Swilley, and Marissa Romeo (FR/Huntersville, NC) all drove in two runs apiece for the Cavs. Aly Woody (SO/Marion, NC) had the Cavs sole stolen base in the second game. Defensively, Swilley had six putouts at the bag at first and each team had two miscues in the field.
