WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons dropped a pair of games today (Mar. 9) to the (RV) Baker University Wildcats and the No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars on a windy and blustery day at Two Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita. The Falcons fell 12-1 to Baker before succumbing 13-2 to the Stars.

The Falcons got on the board first against Baker, getting a sacrifice fly from Savannah Jackson (FR/Ramona, Calif. ) that chased home Shelby Belloni (SR/Denver, Colo. ).

But it was all Wildcats from that point, as Jazzmine Thorpe doubled in a run and scored in the second to put Baker in front for good.

After adding a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth, the Wildcats fully capitalized on three Falcon miscues to score six in the seventh and break things open.

Thorpe had another RBI double in the big inning and Riley Swickard doubled in two runs.

Kat Davis (FR/Keller, Texas) was 3-of-3 at the plate for the Falcons, while the Wildcats got three hits each from Thorpe and Briele Rees. Swickard wound up with three RBIs and Thorpe and Rees each drove in a pair of runs.

Hali Walters (SO/Longmont, Colo.) struck out three in her seven innings of work, with only three of her 12 runs allowed being earned due to seven Falcon errors.

Skylar Gorrell started for Baker and gave up no earned runs on seven hits, with a pair of strikeouts. Zoe Brewer then came in and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to finish off the win.

In the final game of the day, OCU got an unearned run in the first and created further separation when a lead-off homer by Jaci Smith and a three-run blast from Shelby Riggs keyed a five-run third inning.

The Falcons would fight back in the bottom of the inning, getting an RBI single from Belloni that scored Hannah Lang (FR/Topeka, Kan. ) and another tally on a groundout by Kylie Fox (SR/Wichita, Kan. ) that plated Cassie Jones (SR/Erie, Colo. ).

OCU then got the two runs back in the fourth and put the game out of reach as another homer by Smith, a two-run shot ignited a five-run fifth inning.

Belloni went 2-of-3 for the Falcons and Smith had four hits in four at-bats, including her two home runs.

Alicia Dunagan (SR/Douglass, Kan.) went three innings in the circle for Friends and surrendered six runs, but only two earned with four strikeouts.

Ashlyn Jacobs (SO/Wichita, Kan. ) followed Dunagan and pitched two innings, with seven runs allowed (four earned) and three strikeouts.

Kylie Dodson went the distance for OCU, striking out four and allowing two runs with four strikeouts.

The Falcons will next be in action next Thursday (Mar. 14) at home vs. Bacone College.
