WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons staged a seventh inning rally in the second game to overcome a four-run deficit and tie the score, but the Newman University Jets, an NCAA D-II school out of the MIAA conference, scored in the bottom of the inning to win 7-6 today (Feb. 19) at NU Softball Field in Wichita.

Trailing 6-2 going to the seventh inning of the nightcap, Kat Davis (SO/Keller, Texas) got things started with a leadoff homer and Savannah Jackson (SO/Ramona, Calif. ) followed with an RBI single to suddenly make it a two-run game.

Renee Downey (SR/Modesto, Calif.) then delivered a two-run single that tied things up at 6-6 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

But the Jets had an answer, as Jaleigh Conkle hit a run-scoring single to give the Jets the walk-off win.

Davis was 3-of-3 with a double at the plate for the Falcons in the second tilt. Carolyn Dallimore (FR/Patterson, Calif. ) went 3-of-4 with an RBI and Makenna Mitchell (FR/Orange County, Calif. ) had a double and two runs scored. Jackson and Heather Scott (FR/Las Vegas, Nev. ) had two hits, with Scott also driving in a run.

Lacey Colvin and Bailey Bugner each had a pair of hits for the Jets.

Michelle Kroell (FR/Clovis, Calif. ) was the second game starter for the Falcons (2-6) and went the full 6.1 innings, striking out two and allowing six earned runs.

Fresh off a no-hitter the day before at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, the Jets' Anna Veltien pitched six shutout frames and allowed three hits in an 8-0 win in the opening game over the Falcons.

The Jets (3-8) got their offense from Emma Eck and Bugner in the first matchup, as Eck had four RBIs and Bugner drove in three runs.

Davis, Dallimore and Gianna Tijerina (FR/Fort Lupton, Colo. ) each had a hit for the Falcons, with Tijerina hitting a triple.

Hali Walters (JR/Longmont, Colo.) started the first game and went 5.2 innings, giving up six earned runs and striking out three batters.

The Falcons will next compete in the Evangel Queen City Bash this weekend (Feb. 21-22) in Springfield, Mo. Friends will face Williams Baptist University Friday (Feb. 21) at 3 pm and then Evangel University at 5 pm. On Saturday (Feb. 22), the Falcons will square off with Cottey College at 10 am and then No. 16-ranked Columbia College at noon.
