[Softball] Softball opens Middle Georgia round robin

Cochran, Ga. – Softball went 0-2 in their first day at the Middle Georgia Round Robin, falling 9-1 to Middle Georgia in game one and 4-3 to Coastal Georgia in game two.

In game one, Cailin Warner got the start on the mound and retired three batters in her three innings of work. Ashley Starnes was the only Cavalier to cross the plate in the game, making it home on an error in the third inning.

Montreat got off to an early deficit after the Knights blasted a grand slam in the first inning.

Vanessa Bartkewicz posted a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Warner and Mikki Shelton also each had a hit for a team-total of four.

Charlie Smith pitched a complete game two with a pair of strikeouts.

Abby Swilley had a strong day at the plate, hitting 3-for-3 with an RBI single in the first inning. Liana Elliot also posted a multi-hit game, sending two runs across the plate on a single to shallow right-center in the seventh.

"After losing game one, we talked about some changes we wanted to make going into the second game. Seeing my players implement the changes and adjustments made for a nail biting game. I was very proud of the fight they showed by putting up two runs late in the game. We're going to keep working on those tweaks and getting better every pitch."
