[Softball] Softball Splits with Carlow on Saturday

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University softball team split with Carlow on Saturday afternoon at home in River States Conference (RSC) play.

The Eagles lost game one 1-0 but bounced back with a 9-3 victory in game two.

AU is now 8-22 on the year and will play a doubleheader at Kentucky State tomorrow.

Game one

Asbury struggled in the first game on Saturday as they accumulated only two hits in total in the contest.

AU did not pick up their first hit until the bottom of the fifth. The Eagles also had strong pitching in both games which kept them in the contest in game one despite the lack of offense.

Ally Moore tossed all seven innings pitching a complete game. She gave up only four hits and zero earned runs.

Carlow scored the only run of the contest in the top half of the fourth.

For the Eagles, Caitlyn Taylor and Madison Moss both recorded the two hits for AU.

Asbury also committed two errors in the field.


Game two

Asbury played much better in the second game and got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as Paige Hill scored on a wild pitch.

AU added three more runs to extend their lead in the bottom of the second as Caitlyn Taylor's two RBI single allowed Madison Moss and Bree Sanders to score. Hill would score again off of a wild pitch.

Leading 4-0 heading into the bottom of the third, Asbury pushed three more runs across the plate in the inning to take a commanding 6-0 advantage.

Carlow scored its first run of the game in the fifth inning. The Celtics would score twice more in the sixth, but never threatened the Eagles' lead.

AU scored three more runs of insurance in the bottom of the sixth.

Paige Hill got the start in game two and picked up the win. She tossed four full innings and gave up zero earned runs.

McKenzie Meyer pitched the final three innings of action.

AU collected 10 hits as a team. Taylor led the way with a 3-4 performance at the plate and an RBI.

Deana Phillips went 1-4 with an RBI, while Emily Rogers also posted one hit and an RBI.

Bethany Marcum, Bree Sanders, and Whited also recorded RBI in the win. The trio each finished with one hit apiece.
