SANTEE, Calif. — A pair of 7-5 decisions, with one going extras, saw the SDC softball team make a late comeback in Game 1 but saw their lead in Game 2 evaporate as the Hawks fell in both.
SDC scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh in Game 1 but with the tying run at the plate, Elizabeth Wilson flew out to right field as the Mariners were able to hold on.
Marymount scored all their runs in the first two innings. The Mariners scored four in the first and three in the second. Jo Jo Nicolas scored the first run for the Hawks in the first inning after she stole second base, an errant throw brought her home.
Alicia Corona double home Neomi Farfan in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 7-2.
In the seventh, Nicolas hit an RBI double that scored Montana Potts. Emily Espino grounded out but scored Tori Harris from third before Kaylyn Rubalcava singled to left field, scoring Nicolas to bring the score within two.
Harris led the team in Game 1 with three hits and two runs. Starter Madelyn Jacobs lasted just an inning giving up all seven runs. Madison Bostick and Farfan came in relief, throwing six scoreless innings.
Game 2 was a far different story than the first as the Hawks scored first. Farfan scored Harris for the games first run with a single and Rubalcava drew a bases loaded walk for the second run.
In the fourth, Nicolas hit an RBI single to right field to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead with Alicia Corona scoring from third.
Leading 3-1 heading into the seventh, the Mariners added three runs to take a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks were able to tie the game. Wilson singled to center field scoring Bailey Romano. With the winning run on third base the Hawks were unable to bring her home as the game headed to extra innings.
MCU scored three runs in the top of inning and the Hawks only scored one, with the Mariners sweeping the doubleheader.
The Hawks will take on Menlo and William Jessup this weekend.
